An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven individual to join as a Vehicle Line Manager - Sports Series within our Woking office. 

Purpose of the role:

Lead all Sports Series projects for the BE department. Ensuring BIW, Body Exteriors, Interiors are delivered robustly via MDP together with all applicable attributes on time and budget. The scope of the role covers all projects from R&D stage to series production and vehicles in the field. Line Manage Body Principal Engineers for variant programmes and a Body Manager for core programmes. Work within a matrix organization with direct report line to the Head of Body Engineering whilst delivering towards project based goals set by Vehicle Line leadership on multiple parallel projects. The role is multi cross functional to include BE engineering and all supporting functions of Purchasing, Logistics, Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA), Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to ensure all components are engineered simultaneously for on time delivery to cost, weight and BE vehicle attributes. Ensure Design and Engineering integrity to exceed quality, performance and commercial goals.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Working closely with Vehicle line and BE leadership and other relevant stakeholders define and implement goals for all projects under your responsibility (i.e. HLP, CDT, ETRS, budget, BOM, Spec book)
  • Make sure goals are cascaded, communicated, reported and ultimately achieved at every stage of the project
  • Represent BE for the Finance, Project and Project Performance Vehicle Line meetings and report back to the BE department. Represent BE together with BE Managers and Principals at Attribute meetings.
  • Prepare and Present BE MDP slides to project gateways and boardwalks
  • Accountable for managing the full budget for the Vehicle Line across the BE department, including internal and external head count, tooling investment, D&D and BOM cost. Including target setting.
  • ETRS – manage design release process through ETRS for the whole BE group
  • Innovation – support, facilitate and deliver innovation into Sports Series Vehicle Line Body Engineering with regards to material, design, technology as well as development methodologies.
  • Make sure BE BCRs are contained within 24 hours
  • Make sure BE BCRs are solved promptly in line with McLaren PPS system including a robust understanding and dissemination of lesson learnt that are aimed at avoiding problem repetition and continuous improvement
  • Ensure the DVP for BE is completed and up to date as per MDP requirements
  • Define or Influence the selection of Strategic outsourced resource partners
  • Develop the relationship, framework and ultimately the capability of your external partners including a clear performance management process
  • Simultaneous Engineering approach to Body Styling, Design and Engineering where early engagement from all stakeholders is maximised in order to avoid late changes and delays in the overall process. This is including internal stakeholders like Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, SQA other Vehicle Engineering teams, Service/After sales, marketing, etc. and external stakeholders like suppliers, outsourced resource partners, etc
  • Sign off design, technical specification and DFMEAs to ensure all of the above targets are met

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • An experienced automotive leader of direct and indirect teams
  • Experienced in an OEM or tier one with a high level of BIW systems technical knowledge
  • Proven ability in delivery project management within an APQP or similar framework
  • Previous experience in automotive product development or project leadership function
  • Experience of high volume and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
  • Relevant Experience in Lightweight Body Design and materials technology
  • CATIA V5, PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
  • Knowledge of Body Engineering Simulation and Analysis tools and processes
  • Sound commercial and financial awareness                                                                                                                                                                               
  • Educated to Degree level in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
