Track 25 and McLaren Automotive’ s growing reputation is testament to our world class employees. To ensure McLaren Automotive continues to be at the forefront of the Automotive market, we are looking for a Vehicle Line Manager, Hybrid to join our Hybrid team team.
 
Purpose of the role:

To lead current vehicle line projects for the Hybrid department. Delivering and ensuring they fulfil all the programme requirements (cost, timing, performance, function and attributes). The scope of the role covers all projects from a development stage to series production and vehicles in the field. Work with and support Hybrid Principal Engineers for variant programmes. Work within a matrix organization with a direct report line to the Head of Hybrid whilst delivering towards project based goals set by Vehicle Line leadership on multiple parallel projects. The role is multi cross functional to include electric drive engineering and all supporting functions of Purchasing, Logistics, Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA), Manufacturing Engineering and Production Quality to ensure all components are engineered simultaneously for on time delivery to cost, weight and hybrid vehicle attributes. Ensure Design and Engineering integrity to exceed quality, performance and commercial goals.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Working closely with Vehicle line and Hybrid leadership and other relevant stakeholders define and implement goals for all projects under your responsibility (i.e. High-Level Plans, Critical Decisions Timeline, Engineering Timing Release Schedule (ETRS), budget, Bill of Material (BOM), Spec book)
  • Ensure goals are cascaded, communicated, reported and ultimately achieved at every project gateway.
  • Represent Hybrid at the Finance, Project and Vehicle Line meetings and report back to the Hybrid department. Represent Hybrid together with Hybrid Managers and Principal Engineers at Attribute meetings.
  • Prepare and Present Hybrid MDP (McLaren Development Program) slides for project gateways and boardwalks.
  • Accountable for managing the full budget for the Vehicle Line across the Hybrid department, including internal and external head count, tooling investment, D&D and BOM cost. This will include target setting.
  • ETRS – manage design release process through ETRS for the whole Hybrid group.
  • Innovation – support, facilitate and deliver innovation into the respective Vehicle Line Hybrid Engineering with regards to material, design, technology as well as development methodologies.
  • Ensure Hybrid Quality Concern Reports (QCRs) are contained within 24 hours.
  • Ensure Hybrid QCRs are solved promptly in line with McLaren Practical Problem-Solving system including a robust understanding and dissemination of lesson learnt that are aimed at avoiding problem repetition and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Electric Drive Software trackers are on target with issues resolved on time.
  • Relevant ISO26262 compliance is adhered to for key electric drive components.
  • Ensure the DVP for Hybrid is completed and up to date as per MDP requirements.
  • Define or Influence the selection of Strategic outsourced resource partners.
  • Develop the relationship, framework and ultimately the capability of your external partners including a clear performance management process.
  • Simultaneous Engineering approach to Hybrid Engineering where early engagement from all stakeholders is maximised in order to avoid late changes and delays in the overall process. This is including internal stakeholders like Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, SQA other Vehicle Engineering teams, Service/After sales, marketing, etc. and external stakeholders like suppliers, outsourced resource partners, etc.
  • Sign off design, technical specification and DFMEAs to ensure all of the above targets are met.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • An experienced automotive leader of direct and indirect teams.
  • Experienced in an OEM or tier one with a high level of electric drive systems technical knowledge.
  • Proven ability in delivery project management within an APQP or similar framework.
  • Previous experience in automotive product development or project leadership function.
  • Experience of high volume and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes.
  • CATIA V5, PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.
  • Good understanding of ISO26262 standards.
  • Should have good understanding of Electric Drive control systems which include Battery Management Systems, Motor Control Units, DC/DC converter and Charger control systems, and their delivery to programs.
  • Knowledge of Electric Drive Simulation and Analysis tools and processes.
  • Sound commercial and financial awareness.
  • Educated to Degree level in Electrical/Electronics or Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
