Purpose of the Role: To lead a team of vehicle development engineers to plan and execute test and development programmes for all McLaren Automotive vehicle programmes

 

Role Dimensions:  Total team size approx. 20, comprising programme leads, development engineers and test engineers.  Budget responsibility for development programme activities, including test facilities and vehicle requirements.  Regular travel and out of hours activity required in support of development attributes sign-off

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work with the Principal & Senior Engineers to generate appropriate whole vehicle test programmes to develop and validate engineering designs within new vehicle projects
  • Lead the wider team of engineers to deliver development testing programmes to agreed quality, budgets and timescales
  • Support Principal & Senior engineers to deliver programme gateway appraisals and reports
  • Maintain close working relationships with Engineering Managers and Programme Directors to support programme goals as a key member of the engineering team
  • Integrate closely with the Attribute management team to ensure efficient cooperative working between all Engineering areas
  • Specify and manage the contribution of a range of vehicle development facilities/partners and component/service suppliers
  • Develop a team of engineers and technicians, offering support and guidance and identifying training needs and opportunities
  • Forecast and manage all resource and investment required to deliver development programmes
  • Continuous improvement of internal Development processes and MDP deliverables to ensure the development programmes are delivered with the highest possible level of efficiency

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering degree (min II.I) or equivalent, and a robust grasp of engineering theory
  • Experience of development programme delivery, ideally gained on low volume, high performance vehicle programmes
  • Wide ranging automotive testing experience
  • Knowledge and experience of a broad range of vehicle and rig data acquisition, test and analysis techniques
  • Excellent PC skills and at ease with MS Office products
