Test Engineer

Location: Woking, GB

Defined by quality but underpinned by test. McLaren Applied Technologies takes our rich history in motorsport and pushes the boundaries of performance across multiple industries. So, if you are someone who thrives with autonomy, can innovate and help create industry leading test platforms, we have the career for you.

By giving you the tools, you need and the ability to select additional tools to make your job easier you will get to embed with multi-discipline teams working on a range of products from communication systems through to cloud based solutions. Once you are embedded within the product team you will define the test plan, select the tools, create any required testing platforms and perform the relevant tests through the development lifecycle.
We give you the autonomy to shape the test plan but give you all the tools and support you need to ensure the quality of our products remains at the highest standard.

Where are your knowledge areas?

  • Your knowledge of test levels, types and how they can be used to mitigate specific risks will be your second language.
  • We want you to be able to use your expertise to review and suggest amendments to product requirements (e.g. scope, coverage and testability).
  • Assessing/tracking test and requirements coverage is something that you have already thought of before developing your plan.
  • Knowing which test to make a priority based on risk is how you prioritise. Knowing what can go wrong before it does is the type of engineer you are.
  • Data is the key, so you are naturally comfortable deriving test data requirements and preparing/ specifying test data sets.
  • You can create automated tests, you know when to use them, why you use them and what the advantages and disadvantages there are.

Tools and Technologies, we use

  • Continuous delivery pipelines and tools to support it (e.g. Jenkins / Azure DevOps / Sonarcube, etc.)
  • Issue, Defect & Test Management Systems (Jira, Azure DevOps, qTest)

  • Python for scripting and automation
  • Applitools Eyes for Visual Regression
