The role

As an Electronic Test Design Engineer working in our test design team you will design and develop motorsport-and Automotive-quality test solutions for use in the design, development and production of McLaren Applied Technologies products. You will be involved in all aspects of the team’s design work, from initial written specification of test strategies, to design and documentation of test and measurement systems and their integration with the product under test, through to analysis of test performance statistics. You will create test proposals which align the product test requirements with our business test strategy. You will author detailed system design specifications which will be the reference for the design and commissioning of the test system.

You will collaborate with product hardware and software engineers, from across the company, throughout each product’s development and production cycles. Working in a team which is responsible for many projects you will work on various concurrent projects, and work to meet specified timescales. You will contribute to the maintenance of existing test systems, providing fault finding support where necessary. You will propose, develop, and champion new engineering processes for the benefit of the business. This role suits a well-organised, motivated engineer who is excited about developing their career in a wide range of electronic engineering disciplines.


  • Have a first class degree or upper 2nd in a related engineering subject, or equivalent experience
  • Have demonstrable commercial experience of analogue and digital electronics design
  • Have demonstrable experience in measurement & instrumentation design.

Skills and expertise

  • Knowledge of automotive engine interface technologies & control systems.
  • Experience in, and enthusiasm for, Agile working practices
  • Are able to debug and solve problems at system and circuit level.
  • Are experienced in writing clear, formal technical documentation.
  • Have proven experience in requirements capture and management processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills examples

The work environment

You will be based at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre. Our campus includes a subsidised restaurant, a café, a gym with a pool, break-out spaces, bicycle storage facilities and more.

Our environment is designed to encourage collaborative working across all teams. You will be within one hundred metres of a specialist within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.
