Purpose of the Role: On specific projects, primarily relating to connected, low power wearable or medical devices, provide end-to-end technical support, act as a key technical customer interface, and generate high quality systems requirement specifications to enable hardware and software development to meet customers’ needs. Offer technical support to the Systems Engineering Team.

Role Dimensions: Technical support and some decision making. Some travel and out of hours working depending on project commitments.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Lead customer facing projects to capture customer requirements when developing a product or complex system with M.A.T.
  • Author and manage Systems Requirements to a high standard to enable the development of hardware and software, and manage the traceability of requirements through to project delivery.
  • Manage the technical customer relationship through the project duration.
  • Work with customers to integrate M.A.T. systems into their product.
  • Develop testing strategies and execute testing of complex systems and products.
  • Work cross functionally with other engineering teams, project management and stakeholders from pre-sales through to delivery and support phases.
  • Present formal project updates to internal and external senior management, and be comfortable providing updates on project progress with little or no preparation.
  • Provide customer technical support at testing and customer sites.
  • Propose, develop, and champion new engineering processes for the benefit of the business.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • First class degree, or upper 2nd, in a relevant Engineering or highly quantitative field.
  • Proven background in high pressured, time critical customer facing Systems or Project Engineering roles.
  • Knowledge and experience of connectivity (Bluetooth/WiFi/NFC), low power battery management strategies, and UX and HMI.
  • Understanding of electronic product development, connected device development, wearable technology, or medical device development.
  • Strong background in requirements capture and management processes.
  • Strong background in testing electronic devices and software systems.
  • Ability to manage, work and deliver work outside of core domain.
  • Confident in making decisions and taking responsibility for delivery.
  • Proficient with common software products (e.g. MS Office, Project, Visio etc) for daily activities.
  • Familiarity with software and hardware development, for example, the product development V-Model.
  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a very high standard.
  • Organised, systematic, and understands the process of fault finding.
  • Experience of IEC 62304 for medical devices would be advantageous.
