We have an opportunity for someone to join the studio team working at the very start of the design process through to the finished design of our complete range of products.

Studio engineer

Reporting to the Studio Engineer Manager deliver a set of surface models that meet all vehicle targets

To provide an effective interface between engineering & studio offering support to both the design & engineering aspects of supercar design

Approve content entering & leaving the design studio

Principal Accountabilities 

  • Give on hand support & guidance to all studio activities (design, CAS & clay)
  • Check engineering input into the studio & add to reference folders
  • Via reference folders system deliver a comprehensive set of files that define the vehicle
  • Using dated hard copy support clay development through all phases of design
  • Using all options available support & advise designers through all phases of vehicle design
  • Consulting with concept principals as required guide CAS team members through hard-points, attributes & legislation requirements
  • Regularly review engineering development, if necessary clarify design intent & communicate to studio. When concept design sheets are available make them available to the studio
  • Support styling versus attribute discussions (ergo, aero, feasibility, cost & weight) to ensure the right vehicle decision
  • Work cross functionally with concept principals & attribute owners to ensure delivery of hard-points & guide models to meet styling surface release timing
  • For new projects raise ER’s & material numbers in SAP, build structures & publish to VPM all surface models required as agreed with concept principals
  • In the case of series changes agree content of any change with the project engineer & CAS team manager before raising an ER & new material versions
  • Before populating VPM with surface data thoroughly check against all criteria including Q-checker
  • In order to have a rounded view of vehicle development attend both engineering & studio design reviews & in the case of engineering reviews feedback all relevant information to the studio
  • Support gap & flush development meetings & make results available to CAS team
  • Attend colour & material meetings supporting both engineering & studio to achieve a cross functional solution 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required 

  • Education to Degree level preferred
  • Previous experience in a similar design role within industry
  • Extensive use of Catia V5
  • Previous experience of a major manufacturer studio is an advantage
  • Great attention to detail
  • Good understanding of mechanical design requirements for typical automotive applications
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
