Structural Methods Engineer

Purpose of the Role:

Development of FEA/ Structural Simulation methods & capability

Role Dimensions:

The successful candidate will join the Methods team within the Structural Design group and will work in close co-operation with the Structures Engineers and Designers. The purpose of the role is to develop methods and capability with a focus on maximising productivity, data analysis, increasing solution fidelity as well as providing additional FEA/ Stress resource when business demands require.

A broad experience of analysis/ optimisation techniques, composite analysis and scripting skills are advantageous. Woking based. Occasional Travel required. Standard working hours, but flexibility to work additional hours when needed. 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ownership and management of methods projects and software RFEs
  • Mapping and automating workflows and processes
  • Researching and developing new methodologies
  • Scripting of bespoke tools and plug-ins where suitable
  • Investigate and benchmark new and alternative tools
  • Data science
  • Methodology validation
  • General Stress/FEA work as and when required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong Degree in Mechanical/ Aeronautical Engineering or relevant subject
  • Good knowledge of structural analysis methodologies, including classical calculations, composite analysis and non-linear FEA
  • Familiar with mainstream FEA solvers and interfaces (HyperWorks, Abaqus, nCode)
  • Experience of experimental testing, data acquisition, and signal analysis
  • Scripting skills (Matlab, Python, TCL)
  • PC literate and basic CAD skills (Catia V5, 3Dx)
