The Role:

  • Working across multidisciplinary teams to lead the delivery of both internal product development and customer projects, you will manage technically complex product and solution development projects with software as the primary content.
  • You will be responsible for delivering projects on time, to budget and to the required quality standard on behalf of the Project Board. There are no direct reports or budgetary responsibility however you will be responsible for the project budget of any active projects.
  • You will guide a multi-disciplined team through a software creation process to deliver safe and effective products.
  • You will support the final stages of pre-sales activities to ensure that the project scope, goals, methodologies, deliverables and business case have been appropriately defined.
  • You will ensure engineering best practice is followed eg software Agile methodologies, v model for safety critical applications etc.
  • You will lead the planning and start-up of projects, both internally (eg resource requirements, cash-flow considerations) and externally (eg customer stakeholders, suppliers); an understanding of the technical deliverables to a sufficient level is needed to engage in discussions covering customer requirements, prioritisation, issue identification, scope.
  • You will provide leadership, and both commercial and process guidance, to the project team to ensure successful delivery.
  • You will actively manage risks, issues and opportunities.
  • You will work with Resource owners to manage and resolve potential resource conflicts. Assist in planning future staff, skill and tool requirements.
  • Management of change from a defined commercial/technical baseline.
  • Project governance & stakeholder management - you will present monthly reports defining project progress, exceptions and solutions.
  • You will contribute to the further enhancement of in-house project management methodology by ensuring best practice software product development practices are incorporated.

You:

  • Have an engineering degree qualification or equivalent combination of education and work experience in computer science or software development.
  • Possess a combination of strong commercial and engineering acumen with relevant experience. 
  • Have proven experience in programme/project management/team leadership in software product development
  • Have worked in an Agile environment and have significant experience of development planning in collaborative environments such as Atlassian and MS VSO.
  • Thrive in an environment of constant change.
  • Have experience of working across and vertically in medium size organisations.
  • Have excellent people management, interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Are a strong negotiator and influencer both internally and externally.
  • See and understand the big picture while managing the important details as required.
  • Are a strong decision maker and possess analytical/problem solving skills
  • Have a good understanding of project engineering best practice, software development practices and Agile methodologies such as SCRUM and SAFe.
  • A good knowledge and application of methods, tools and applications in a high-tech Engineering business a distinct advantage.
  • Good facilitation and coaching skills are important within the role.
