Senior User Experience Engineer

As part of McLaren’s Track 25 plan, we are looking to invest £1.2 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 18 all-new cars or derivatives by the end of 2025.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven individual to join our Engineering team as a Senior User Experience Engineer, to lead the strategic direction, requirements definition and programme delivery of the end-to-end User Experience (UX) for an Ultimate Series Vehicle.  The scope of the role should include on-vehicle interfaces (hard and soft) and off-car products and services that augment the owner/driver experience.
Principal Accountabilities:

  • Deliver the UX attribute specification tailored to an Ultimate Series vehicle, covering the full-vehicle driver interface controls, displays, workflow and styling guidelines, consistent with the McLaren brand and other McLaren vehicles.
  • Execute all UX attribute assessment and validation plans in accordance with the programme gateways.
  • Ensure the UX requirement specification and in-service updates satisfy Legislation, Functional Safety and Product Liability in all applicable markets.
  • Maintain an awareness of performance of relevant benchmarks to inform attribute targets and solution definition to deliver a competitive advantage.
  • Support internal departments and function groups to manage external suppliers for UX components.
  • Support the UX attribute status and project meetings throughout the programme gateways and engineering reviews.
  • Support company drive events for UX attribute assessments.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven representation of the UX function in a multidisciplinary team
  • User Experience design for an automotive, infotainment or smart eco-system applications.
  • Prototyping and assessment methods for User Experience design concepts.
  • Automotive and consumer technology trends relevant to McLaren’s Ultimate series (i.e. luxury good, HNW consumer behaviour)
  • Effective communication skills across all company levels and global suppliers.
  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard using Microsoft office tools.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Diagramming / illustration skills using Adobe Illustrator or similar products
  • Understanding of automotive electrical architectures and software integration.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols and standards (CAN, LIN, etc)
  • Formal methods for assessment and classification of User Experience concepts.

  • Effective time management and prioritisation of tasks between multiple projects
  • Conscientious and attention to quality, reliability and safety.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor degree in either engineering, information technology, computer science 2.1 above  or similar
  • Flexible approach to working hours.
  • Driving Licence.
