McLaren Special Operations create cars around an owner’s precise tastes, and provide everything from bespoke customisation options through to building ultra-exclusive limited-edition or one-off breath-taking models.

MSO has recently produced vehicle programmes such as MSO X –  10 sportscars that emulate the look and feel of a McLaren 570S GT4 race car but are fully road-legal and MSO R; A bespoke commission of 2 cars specifically created around one customers specification.

All 500 McLaren Senna’s will go through the MSO team. To enable the successful completion and deliver of these cars along with more programmes such as MSO X and R we are looking for a Senior Project Specification Coordinator to join the team.   

Purpose of the role:

As Senior Project Specification Coordinator your main role is to ensure the delivery of MSO bespoke vehicles through McLaren business systems. You will be responsible for a team which assimilates inputs from business wide departments and defines strategies for the seamless delivery of MSO Product.

As part of the delivery you will be looking to further improve the accurate specification of MSO projects and ensure the timely delivery of any accountabilities of you and your team.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Liaise directly with sales, purchasing, logistics, engineering and workshop personnel, to translate customer requirements into a detailed project specification
  • Manage team activities including hiring, development, and training operation
  • Facilitate the efficient running of their department within the team
  • Populate service orders with the required operations and parts
  • Create and release configurable parts
  • Liaise with the Central Planning Department to ensure that the communication of MSO content is made in time to effect the change to the Bill of Materials
  • Define work packages for standard operations to improve efficiency and reduce lead times in service order creation
  • Identify and drive implementation of continuous improvement activities

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Qualification to degree level in Engineering or a technical discipline or equivalent vocational experience and academic qualifications
  • Ability to understand and correctly interpret client, retailer, and MSO sales descriptions and to translate those accurately into parts lists to enable the delivery of the correct finished vehicle
  • An understanding of automotive interior and exterior/body systems, specification and manufacturing process would be a distinct advantage
  • Suitable experience in a technical role in automotive or equivalent manufacturing environment is essential  
  • Competent in usage of Excel would be highly preferred
  • Experience of using SAP systems
