Senior Project Engineer - HVAC

Track 25 and McLaren Automotive’ s growing reputation is testament to our world class employees. To ensure McLaren Automotive continues to be at the forefront of the Automotive market, we are looking for a Senior Project Engineer, HVAC System to join our Powertrain team.
Purpose of the role:
Leading the technical definition & project / system engineering activities on all vehicle projects, from concept to series-development, ensuring all systems and components fulfil all the programme requirements (performance, attributes, cost & timing).
Principal accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the technical ownership of HVAC System; including Air Distribution Unit, Air Intake Unit, Pipes & Hoses and A/C Compressor.
  • Responsibility for the delivery of owned systems to specific vehicle programmes
  • Create and manage Technical Specification, FMEA, DVP, Vehicle / System level Test Specs
  • Manage delivery of products to meet Budgets & Expenditure, Timing & Delivery       
  • BOM management & tracking           
  • Chairing key vehicle project meetings
  • Supplier liaison & management
  • Vehicle Build and Development Support
  • Creation and management of Technology Roadmaps             
  • BOM definition and management to include leading cost & weight reduction initiatives to deliver targets.
  • Planning, monitoring and execution of project activities to guarantee project delivery in line with MDP and gateway deliverables.
  • Establish and control system design, release (ETRS), development and validation plans in association with functional experts and in line with technical risk management processes.
  • Establish and give direction on supply chain in association with function group buyers, SQA and logistics
  • Ensure manufacturability and compliance with quality standards of all components and systems within the defined BOM.
  • Lead DFM and FMEA activities to support project delivery.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • A high level of technical knowledge & experience of the of the HVAC system specification, design, test & production.
  • Additional knowledge and experience of Powertrain component & systems.
  • Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery
  • Demonstrate experience of component & system design within an APQP or similar framework including FMEA, component planning and PPAP

Personal attributes:

  • Demonstrable experience of automotive design, development & delivery.
  • Proven track record of Powertrain component & system engineering (experience with the detailed systems above preferred). 
  • A background in relevant powertrain attributes advantageous 
  • Excellent HVAC System technical knowledge 
  • Adopts a creative & thoughtful approach to engineering problem solving, (e.g. 8D or PPS) with very good attention to detail.
  • Excellent feasibility assessment skills including design for manufacture and DFMEA input
  • Good experience in component release management and problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with design and development groups 
  • Well organised, delivery focused – with demonstrable record of on-time delivery
  • Good team skills, willingness to work cross-functionally.
