Senior Hybrid & Vehicle Systems Engineer

Location: Woking, GB

Purpose of the Role:

Leads and is responsible for the end-to-end Systems Engineering lifecycle across complex state-of-the-art electric and hybrid powertrain solutions for motorsport and automotive applications; giving technical leadership from eliciting user/product needs, requirements capture/management, through to system integration and test & verification planning.


Plans and delivers solutions and aligns with technology roadmaps keeping the business at the forefront of industry trends. Provide technical leadership and contributes to the planning and implementation of projects, bids and proposals, accountable to the BU and Chief Engineers.


Applies Systems Engineering best practice in MAT and continuously seeks to improve the practice and processes. Manages interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.


Role Dimensions:

Some travel and out of hours working depending on the business commitments.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develops and delivers complex systems with either challenging stakeholders or challenging technology in projects typically lasting 6-18 months. Provides technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and ensures deliverables are in line with business imperatives.
  • Working concurrently on several projects across the company to provide guidance and direction to junior Engineers.
  • Finds and utilises the right technologies, manages significant risk.
  • Manages interactions with stakeholders with awareness of internal/external interdependencies that may impact the delivery of the solution.
  • Recognised as expert in own function within the organisation.
  • Provides clear technical input to the planning of new products, clients and markets, alongside the commercial team and Chief Engineers.
  • Provides significant technical input into proposals. Contributes to decisions and ensures understanding.
  • Delivers and demonstrates new technologies within commercial and market realities, generating IP as appropriate.
  • Continuously improves engineering processes for the benefit of the business.
  • Able to apply sound engineering principles into new domains/markets. Thinks outside of the box.
  • Ensures solutions/systems meet sector/industry safety compliance standards.
  • Provides guidance on different approaches and techniques to resolve complex issues and potentially yield better results. Actively mentors staff to increase quality.



  • First class degree or upper 2nd in Engineering, Electronics, Physics or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience).


    Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:



  • Strong practitioner, delivering high standards of Systems Engineering on complex powertrain systems with high voltage hardware, embedded software, application software and mechanical components.
  • A strong background in system integration, testing & validation of electric powertrain components, such as, electric machines, power electronics, converters, batteries.
  • Demonstrable experience in motorsport hybrid/electrification powertrain applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent technical knowledge. Able to quickly build rapport with peers and stakeholders. Able to tactfully challenge without alienating.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.



  • Familiar with software and hardware development, and the product development V-Model.
  • Proven experience in requirements capture and management processes.
  • Demonstrable experience in automotive hybrid/electrification powertrain applications, such as, Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) powertrains.
  • Experience with Powertrain controls development and vehicle communication networks
