Purpose of the Role:

You will be working in the development team that produces platform software for embedded systems and control electronics used in motorsport. The products you develop and support are used by customers in the top-tier of this sector including Formula 1, WEC, NASCAR, and IndyCar.

You will be responsible for developing solutions and planning the execution path to deliver into specific systems and products.

The team makes use of Xilinx products and tool-chains to deliver solutions. Development is predominantly in VHDL and with close working relationship to embedded ‘C’ software team and hardware engineering providing electronic solutions.

Day to day activities follow Agile development methodology. You will interact with other team members to share experience, refine solutions and balance workload.

Role Dimensions:

The role will involve occasional travel to meet with customers and support product deployment.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Solves complex problems, takes a new perspective using existing solutions. 
  • Improves and delivers solution components for pre-production and production deployment taking account of the commercial implications
  • Develops solutions and reusable solutions, optimizing engineering processes, that can be quickly adapted into new applications/products.
  • Accounts for use of time, resources and techniques to deliver solutions efficiently.
  • Identifies the best solution within constraints.
  • Monitors progress and identifies risk abatement strategies.
  • Assesses solutions/systems and produces reports on failure modes.
  • Produces clear and concise project reports and presentations and externally represents the company in a technical capacity.
  • Actively researches and communicates emerging industry trends. 
  • Acts as a resource for less experienced colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • First class degree or upper 2nd in Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Product or industrial design creative ability.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • HDL and scripting languages, for example VHDL, Verilog, tcl, Perl, Python, make, ANT;
  • Test-bench architectures and methodologies
  • Timing closure and RTL analysis, constraint analysis and description languages
  • Implementation tools, Xilinx, ISE, Vivado, PlanAhead, (Altera, Quartus).
  • Programming and configuration tools, for example JTAG, iMPACT, PROM, SPI, Multi-boot
  • IP Management, SoC architectures and tools, 3rd party IP integration, IP generation and management
  • Analytical Software, for example MATLAB, Simulink;
  • Xilinx product family experience, Spartan-6, Artix-7, Virtex-5, Zynq
  • Version Control: Mercurial, GIT
  • Application development in desktop environment Windows, Linux.
  • Communication interfaces; SPI, PCIe, DDR, MII, SATA, UART, CAN, FlexRay Ethernet, EtherCAT
  • Electronic hardware design, reading schematics, device datasheets
  • Microsoft Suite of productivity tools
