Senior Engineer - Advanced Cockpit Electronics

The Electrical & Controls department is a fast paced and rewarding environment where ideas can be turned into product quickly. 

The Electrical & Controls department represent the delivery of system hardware and software for McLaren vehicles, systems include: Infotainment, switches, displays, vehicle electronics, connectivity and electrical distribution systems (EDS).

As a Senior Engineer in Advanced team side of Cockpit Electronics, you will be part of a core systems design & development team focused on systems for future McLaren iconic cars. You will be responsible for a number of systems from identifying future technology, defining a technology roadmap and following that roadmap, developing technology in close collaboration also with the Advanced Engineering team of McLaren Automotive.

We are now looking to recruit a Senior Engineer experienced in developing automotive systems, e.g. Infotainment, Cluster Instrument, Optical systems and Displays, Switch gear, Audio, Antennas, etc. As a future colleague, you will be supporting to envision concepts, prove the concepts and then specifying state-of-the-art systems to current and future McLaren road cars. You will work with designers and suppliers on the feasibility of design and helping to manage the supplier relationship from prototype to production.


Below are some of the primary responsibility as a Senior Engineer:

  • Support component roadmaps for systems in line with company business plan.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Engineering team of McLaren Automotive to refine the technical aspects of commodities before Programmes kick-off officially
  • Work cross functionally to come up with new and innovative designs and concepts to support all HMI including infotainment features for current and future McLaren cars
  • Support system owners and technical experts to achieve concept approval and customer signoff procedures for new systems, features and functionality
  • Organise introduction of new features to support future programmes
  • Apply lessons learned and write high-level specifications for each relevant part to be developed
  • Support technical relationships with suppliers to deliver new features functional specifications and preparation for official launch in upcoming programmes
  • Interact with management peer group, concept teams and Purchasing teams
  • Take direction from McLaren senior management
  • Manage and develop any test rigs to facilitate the required testing of developed features
  • Support supply chain to manage commercials

Qualifications & Skills

Degree qualified in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.

Experience of systems design & development, systems engineering & the engineering V-lifecycle within an OEM or Tier 1 organisation.

Previous experience of developing automotive systems, e.g. Infotainment, Cluster Instrument, Optical systems and Displays, Switch gear, Audio, Antennas, etc.

Experience in A-Surface design and using CAD packages like CATIA would be ideal but not mandatory.

A valid UK driving licence.
