Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Purpose of the role:

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer you will report to the Lead Design Engineer, working in a core structured team of 7 people who have a true passion for what they do and the importance of their expertise in a technical area that is often taken for granted.  You will need to be an innovator with vast ability to think outside of the box, whilst systems become more complex and advanced, especially with the increase of electric and hybrid vehicles, you will need to work on challenging the status quo whilst being conscious of vehicle weight, cost and production. 


Principal accountabilities:

  • Design and development of low voltage electrical distribution
  • Design, development and production release solutions for the electrical package and wiring systems for our range of vehicles
  • Ensuring compliance with Arcadia/Cadonix design tools or other industry relevant schematic design tools
  • Creating schematics and 2D harness drawings in line with industry recognised EDS standards.
  • Supplier management – Engineering, timing, cost, and weight to achieve program targets.
  • Systems engineering – Hazard analysis and risk management, DFMEA, verification and validation planning.
  • Practical vehicle fault analysis and electrical harness rework with a hands-on approach during development/concept build phases.
  • Supporting UK and overseas whole vehicle and component testing activities including functional, environmental and EMC.

Knowledge, skills & experience: 

  • Electrical design experience (for example: wiring, schematics, harnesses, LV distribution)
  • Experience in the use of CAD design software (such as Catia V5)
  • Ideally you’ll also have an understanding of Arcadia, Cadonix or similar for harness and schematic design, as well as an appreciation of design and quality standards used in industries such as automotive, defence, or aerospace.
