Track 25 and McLaren Automotive’ s growing reputation is testament to our world class employees. To ensure McLaren Automotive continues to be at the forefront of the Automotive market, we are looking for a Senior EDS Designer to join our Motorsport team.

Purpose of the role:

Ensuring the successful delivery of the EDS for the new GT3 programme, and defining and managing the chassis based control strategies. You will also be project managing the EDS package, liaising with all relevant parties.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Project manage the new EDS package from a chassis perspective
  • Liaise with all relevant parties to successfully deliver a high performing and efficient EDS including MAL, principal hardware supplier, sensor suppliers, Powertrain and Motorsport DO
  • Support the design team with experienced based input on the layout and configuration of the cars electrical components
  • Oversea the electrical specification and build of the new steering wheel
  • Specify the chassis sensor package on the car.
  • Together with the Motorsport DO, ensure the efficient packaging of all sensors
  • Ensure the EDS complies with all Race Series requirements that the GT3 car will operate in
  • Raise build concerns with rectification recommendations
  • Define and develop the chassis side control strategies
  • Define the extensive electrical and controls development programme to prove out the new systems
  • Lead the track side electrical engineering of the prototype vehicles
  • Pre, during and post-event reporting
  • Clearly communicate progress and issues to the Motorsport Engineering team and Management

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Extensive Motorsport EDS experience (in excess of 15 years) particularly endurance based racing
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to lead and motivate a small focused team and work cross functionally
  • Race car engineering experience essential

  • Ability to identify concerns and suggest methods of rectification
  • Strong communication skills through all mediums, with the ability to organise and chair meetings that will be clear action focussed events.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to project manage design tasks both internally and with the supplier(s).
  • Strong communication skills through all mediums, with the ability to organise and chair reviews and deliver concise explanations of design changes to change management teams
  • Must have a flexible approach to working hours, travel requirements and adaptability to changing and multiple priorities
