As part of our Track25 business plan we will launch 18 new models or derivatives of our vehicles and look to expand our retailer network into new markets with an aim of having 100 retailers globally.

Purpose of the role:

 

Supporting the design team to create breath-taking products that tell the visual story of their function. Creating ‘clean sheet’ concept & production ready design solutions compatible with concurrent engineering exercises to the McLaren Design Process (MDP) & program timing.

Leading the exterior or interior delivering to the design strategy & business’ requirements.

 

Principal accountabilities:

  • Lead an exterior or interior design project team to deliver the design vision/strategy.
  • Produce high impact content for senior presentations.
  • Run & set the agenda of weekly Design Review(s) and minute feedback/actions.
  • Input into resource and timing discussions G0-G4, as required.
  • Work within the wider CMD, CAS, Clay & Engineering teams; to present feasible design solutions to Function Group representatives and Senior Management for sign-off.
  • Reconcile design intent, quality & manufacturing feasibility with aerodynamics, engineering and commercial requirements.
  • Communicate progress and critical issues to the Principal Designer.
  • Attend program and engineering reviews on behalf of Design.
  • Attend surface reviews on behalf of Design.
  • Allocate secondary tasks to team members, such as preparing review content.
  • Offer input into the creation and update of design standards & process.
  • Input into Design Strategy.
  • Be a role model, live the values and communicate the design pillars to other departments.

 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Education to Degree level or equivalent.
  • Good verbal & written presentation skills.
  • Excellent 2D sketching & 3D skills/knowledge. (Photoshop, Clay, Alias is a plus).
  • Basic program timing skills.
  • PC literate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience on clay & digital properties for production/advanced design.
  • Ability to lead an exterior or interior from G0-G4.
  • Very good understanding of ergonomics, aerodynamic principles & legal requirements.
