As part of our Track25 business plan we will launch 18 new models or derivatives of our vehicles and look to expand our retailer network into new markets with an aim of having 100 retailers globally.  

Track 25 and McLaren Automotive’ s growing reputation is testament to our world class employees. To ensure McLaren Automotive continues to be at the forefront of the Automotive market, we are looking for a Senior Clay Modeller to join our Design Studio.

Purpose of the role:

Translate 2D themes into breath-taking physical properties “that tell the visual story of their function”. Create concept & production ready surface solutions in order to drive the program forwards to deliver design intent.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Own a zone of the exterior or interior clay (scale or 1:1) to deliver the design vision/strategy.
  • Produce high impact physical content for senior presentations and weekly design reviews.
  • Work within the wider CMD, CAS, Clay & Engineering teams; to present feasible design solutions to Function Group representatives and Senior Management for sign-off.
  • Reconcile design intent, quality & manufacturing feasibility with aerodynamics, engineering and commercial requirements.
  • Input into resource and timing of the High Level Plan discussions at G0.
  • Communicate progress and critical issues to the Clay Manager.
  • Attend Design & CAS reviews on behalf of the Clay team as required and action minutes.
  • Ability to support studio technician with cutter paths.
  • Offer input into the creation and update of design standards & process.
  • Maintain a tidy work space.
  • Be a role model, live the values and communicate the design pillars to other departments.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Education in a design, modelling or pattern making background preferred.
  • Good verbal & written presentation skills.
  • Strong physical modelling and surface design skills (hard modelling and clay).
  • Work NC (milling and cutter path experience).
  • PC literate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience on full size and scale clay properties. Ideally to have led an exterior or interior G0-G4.
  • Good understanding of design process, ergonomics, aerodynamic principles & legal requirements.
