Senior CAE analyst Fluidynamics 1D

For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 22 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives during this period. 

Purpose of the Role:

  • Responsible to perform engine analysis work and detailed fluid dynamics simulations of four stroke high performance gasoline engines
  • Assess engines performance by simulation models and provide guidance for the design process and support technical choices in engine design
  • Interact with Engine Designers, the team of Engine engineers and technical experts, Engineers responsible for research and Engineering and Integration, to take ownership of Engine components and sub-systems simulations and Analysis on McLaren  Engine programmes. 
  • As part of a highly dynamic team, influencing concepts and delivering the application of existing & new technology on exciting new products.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Detailed knowledge for all high-performance Engine components and sub-systems.
  • Accountable for implementation of Engine calculation models using GT Power/ Gt Suite software
  • Development of 1D models and their correlation to engine test results
  • Optimization of Engine internal fluid dynamics
  • Implementation of combined 1D-3D fluid dynamics simulation models
  • Design and Optimization of the Intake and Exhaust Systems
  • Turbocharging simulation
  • Define and optimize valvetrain components and define valve lifts and cam profiles.
  • Support the decision process by technical simulation, working with design engineers and other members of the analysis teams, and external engineering organisations and suppliers, to deliver to defined technical specifications in line with the Powertrain & Vehicle programmes.
  • Participation to the technical assessment, integration and application of appropriate Powertrain technologies
  • Support vehicle programme attribute owners with respect to development and reporting.
  • Ensure the components interface seamlessly to the wider car and to other teams
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • A high level of technical knowledge of high performance engine and their simulation
  • GT Power and more general other GT SUITE software modules (GT Vtrain, GT fuel,..)
  • CATIA V5 2D/3D skills are a bonus
  • Converge CFD software (or any other CFD software) skills are a plus
  • Proficient use of Matlab would be a bonus   
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.                                                                                        
  • Experienced in OEM or tier one component analysis and simulation
  • Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
