Senior CAE Engineer – Electric Drive Technology

We’re in a period of unprecedented innovation in the automotive industry as we move away from conventional powertrains towards hybrid and eventually fully electric vehicles. We want you to join us on this journey. With your simulation and analysis experience, and your knowledge of electric drive components, you’ll be defining the electric drive hardware and controls software to ensure the electric drive system meets its ambitious targets.

You’ll join a large, established team of highly qualified, experienced Engineers and managers who are all working to innovate in this field. As it’s a key focus of our Track25 business plan it is a demanding role, but one that will provide you with the opportunities you want to develop.

In terms of day to day responsibilities, you’ll be tasked with defining the specifications of the drivetrain so that we meet the performance, efficiency, and drivability targets. This will involve close collaboration with the Designers and Systems Engineers, who you’ll work alongside. You’ll also be developing simulation models and data transfer methods to allow the electric drive data to be communicated across the involved stakeholders. On a strategic level, we’ll be looking to you to develop tool sets, software and best practice methods across CAE, and improving our capabilities to bring value added analysis in-house.

To succeed in this role you’ll need experience in simulation and analysis, including model architecture definition, model and boundary condition set up, data processing and reporting. You’ll also need to have experience with electric drive components (this could be from energy storage systems, eMotor, or power electronics). As it’s a Senior position, we’ll be expecting you to hit the ground running so a background in this field is needed.

We’re committed to being at the forefront of innovation, development, and investment over the next decade, and it’s our goal to produce an EV hyper-car by the end of the 2020s. This is why we’re rapidly growing our Electric Drive team in Woking (where you’ll be based), and also building a new team in Sheffield.

Working alongside some of the best Engineers in the Hybrid and Electric Drive industry and leveraging our unique alliances with industry partners and research institutions, we can help you to rapidly develop your career. The team is around 40 strong currently, and we’re expecting this to grow to over 70 in the next couple of years. And this growth means opportunity for you: opportunity for progression; to take on new challenges; and learn novel areas of technology as you help McLaren to innovate.

If you’ve got what it takes to succeed in an innovative and genuinely driven environment and you’ve got the passion to develop in this field, this really is the time to join us.
