You will be part of our business plan to launch 18 new models or derivatives of our vehicles, expanding our retailer network into new markets with an aim of having 100 retailers globally. The Role

 You will have the life-cycle responsibility and autonomy for delivering high quality, value for money products/components and services to McLaren, utilising robust and objective nomination and sourcing processes that represent best-in-class practices.

Having the accountability for cost and budget management for multi-million pound direct-spend portfolios. You will be managing complex commercial and contractual relationships and have a good understanding of legal contracts. You will establish relationships and long-term development plans with suppliers based upon common goals and objectives.

You will ensure supplier requirements and concerns are fully understood and ensure these are fed back during the appropriate stages to the appropriate stakeholders, whilst working cross-functionally with all departments to drive quality principles and commercial acumen into every aspect of our business

Principal accountabilities:

  • You will assist in the co-ordination and maintain elements of control within the activities of McLaren’s Purchasing team to ensure McLaren’s continued customer commitment of being the bench mark for customer satisfaction for both internal and external customers/stakeholders.
  • You will develop a culture of continuous improvement throughout the business. With an understanding of industry practices (e.g. Six Sigma, PPS)
  • You will develop detailed and intelligent commodity/category strategies that align with the organisation’s commercial and technology roadmaps as well as those of our key development partners.
  • You will be able to understand complex and abstract concepts (legal, technical and/or commercial) and being able to present the information in an informative and simplified manner; such that key decisions can be made quickly and objectively.
  • You will have management of multimillion-pound portfolios.
  • You will co-ordinate and have full autonomy for supplier nomination and long-term strategies within a chosen function group.
  • You will manage Supplier contracts and commercial negotiations.
  • You will ensure effective resolution of all critical supply issues and status reporting to the project team.
  • You will ensure minimisation and mitigation of costs, project risks, negative relationships with suppliers and threats to the organisation’s ability to design, develop and manufacture products on time, to cost and at the required quality standards.
  • You will be driving cost-down activities with suppliers and VA/VE activities. Utilising known and robust commercial tools (e.g. cost estimating processes, benchmarking activities etc.)
  • You will lead pre-launch supplier management activities to ensure readiness for series production.
  • You will development of supplier evaluation methods and driving performance improvement initiatives.
  • You will be driving all areas of the business to submit timely, comprehensive parts requirements in line with supplier lead-times.
  • Execution of management reporting.
  • You will be Configuration and development of business operating systems to ensure effective working methods.
  • You will have budgetary control of all associated cost centres.
  • You will represent your function group at programme gateways and cost workshops.
  • You will be mentoring buyers within the team sharing best practice and encouraging development in others.
  • You will be supporting and fostering a cross-functional approach to achieve your objectives.
  • You will engage with Engineering so that you are seen as a key stakeholder and able to exert influence.
  • You will have setting of clear objectives and monitor performance of your suppliers and other functions within the organisation.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • You will have the ability to lead negotiations and support teams in the development of negotiations strategies for large and complex projects.
  • You will have excellent influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • You will have demonstrable commercial success within an Automotive and / or manufacturing environment is desired, but willing to consider all industries with the right competencies gained.
  • You will have excellent organisational skills, deadline adherence and exceptional attention to accuracy and detail.
  • You will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • You will be able to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority.
  • You will have the determination to drive forward the business to ‘Best in Class’ performance standards.
  • You must be capable of lateral thinking and be able to make structured and objective decisions.
  • You'll be able to demonstrate a methodical approach towards problem solving.
  • You will have a high level of self-motivation to overcome obstacles.
  • You will be results driven and the ability to deliver against aggressive targets to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • You'll have a flexible approach to working hours and practices is necessary.
  • You will have experience of launch management / new model integration.
  • You will havr the ability to play a lead role in contract implementation and management.
  • You will have good working knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes.
  • You will have proven supply chain management and procurement experience, dealing with both small and large value organisations..
  • You will be MCIPS qualified.
  • You'll have extensive direct procurement experience in a relevant industry.
  • You will have completed a minimum of two new product introduction cycles.
