Application Engineer - SharePoint

Purpose of the Role:

The Application Engineer - SharePoint, is responsible for the development and operational delivery of enhancements and projects across a core set of bespoke and commercial business applications, with a particular focus on SharePoint and Microsoft cloud based technologies.

This combined stakeholder management, technical co-ordination and delivery role includes providing strong application development leadership and technical expertise, as well as being responsible for co-ordinating project delivery and resolution of technical issues for end-user business customers.

The role also includes ensuring that the delivered Microsoft solutions are fit for purpose, secure and scalable. This includes the capture and translation of business requirements, design, planning, and development, testing and training for the Microsoft applications estate.

Role Dimensions:

  • Close liaison with colleagues from across Group IT and the wider businesses.
  • Deliver SharePoint solutions using industry best practises.
  • Responsible for assisting in the definition of the Microsoft SharePoint strategy, solutions and roadmap, ensuring that these meet business requirements and performance goals, and that the technical direction is consistent with Group IT strategy.
  • Mentor IT and business users around SharePoint development techniques.
  • Works at a strategic level with external suppliers & partners as appropriate.
  • Occasionally required to respond to support requests out of hours.

Principal Accountabilities:     

  • Maintain existing SharePoint solutions and implement strong supporting governance and ownership.
  • To work with the businesses to identify where O365 and SharePoint technologies can be used to improve business processes and solutions.
  • Development of new O365 solutions
  • Build custom business applications with O365 out-of-the-box products and services
  • Help to drive the adoption and usage of Office 365 & SharePoint solutions.
  • To define the Microsoft SharePoint strategy, solutions and roadmap, ensuring that these meet business requirements and performance goals, and that the technical direction is consistent with Group IT strategy.
  • Specify, enhance and develop documentation for standards conformance and best practices

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience - Full Training will be provided as required:    

  • Experience with SharePoint (on premise/online) administration and Office 365 administration.
  • Knowledge of Office 365 Teams/Groups functionality
  • Experience of PowerApps/Flow
  • Experience of supporting and developing InfoPath 2013 forms for SharePoint and Designer workflows 
  • Experience of automating administration tasks and developing solutions using PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint development and delivery
  • Experience in dealing with 3rd party suppliers and working with them to achieve results.
  • Understanding of existing and emerging cloud-based Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience within a technical environment performing solution design across technical domains.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong on-going business relationships at a senior operational level with internal IT colleagues and end-user business customers.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • MCSE Accreditation or number of MCP’s.
  • Project management
  • Experience working within an ITIL framework.

The Recruitment Process:

  • If your application is successful, you’ll be invited for a phone interview with one of our experienced technical recruiters.
  • Following successful review, you will then partake in a 30-minute telephone interview with the Hiring Manager. 
  • The final stage will be an onsite face to face interview at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey with the Hiring Manager and wider team.
