SQA Principal Engineer - Body in White (Metals)

You will be part of our business plan to launch 18 new models or derivatives of our vehicles, expanding our retailer network into new markets with an aim of having 100 retailers globally. The Role

Reporting to the SQA Manager - responsible for all aspects of new product introduction and maintaining a stable quality level together with sufficient capacity in series, for Body in White Metal supplied parts and assemblies for McLaren road cars.

Recruitment and management of, together with organisational and Technical support for, SQA Engineers within the section.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Responsible for a team of SQA Engineers to deliver purchased part Product Quality & Capacity for all Metal Parts and Assemblies associated with Body in White suppliers.
  • Conduct New Product Introduction & Process verification audits
  • Track Supplier on time delivery of IATF16949 achievement plans.
  • Manage and control up front quality planning within the supply base through effective APQP deployment and monitoring.
  • Manage and Control on time approval of production parts and processes (PPAP) for components.
  • Support production preparation using the Supplier Capacity Verification process to ensure smooth production ramp-up and maintain stability in series production.
  • Drive the development of supplier processes to best in class standards at supplier locations.
  • Ensure all Concern investigation (8D) and QCR’s are resolved on time for Series production parts within the Commodity Group.
  • Drive Implementation and management of part and process improvement activities.
  • Development and achievement of KPIs for the team
  • Carry out team Performance Reviews twice per year
  • Lead Project status and Management report provision as required.
  • Create and Maintain Personal development plans and training plans.
  • Provide Stand in support for SQA Manager as required. 
  • Act as subject matter expert for this commodity.
  • Develop training material on Metal related best practice manufacturing processes/controls

Knowledge, skills & experience:

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Engineering/Automotive Degree or similar 
  • Experience of Automotive Quality/Manufacturing in OEM or tier one, including some new model and series experience in a QA related position
  • Detailed knowledge of Metal part manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of IATF16949 requirements.
  • Experienced in project management reporting within an APQP or similar framework
  • Experience of building close working relationships both internally and with suppliers
  • Detailed knowledge and proven record of approving parts using PPAP
  • Experience of using problem solving techniques in a production environment (e.g. 8D)
  • Understanding of lean techniques to support problem solving.
  • IT literate (competent user of MS products e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Previous Catia V5 experience and working knowledge of GD&T
  • Previous experience of using SAP would be an advantage.
  • Previous supervisory experience would also be an advantage
