Quality Lead - Contract

Location: Woking, GB

Purpose of the Role:

Due to strong customer demand and growth we require talented and determined individuals to own and lead the quality engineering activities, and to drive the application and assurance of the project delivery process across the portfolio of projects that are delivered into the market by MAT.


Role Dimensions: 
The Quality Lead will be responsible for managing and delivering the end to end quality engineering and assurance activities across all delivery projects and BAU activities for the defined business unit to ensure the Customer, McLaren Applied Technologies, and appropriate industry / market standards are met.
The Quality Lead will work closely with the Project, Product and Engineering Managers and will be accountable for ensuring that the industry specific quality requirements are managed and supported throughout the project / product lifecycles.


Some / limited traveling will be expected in this role.


Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Provides industry specific quality guidance and direction to the defined Business Unit, helps to guide successful scoping of BID’s / projects by providing feedback from lessons learnt and cost of quality performance data from previous projects / products
  • Works with the Project Manager to drive a customer focused deployment approach (QFD) to ensure focus is on the critical to quality targets that drive a right first-time approach to deliver the customer needs
  • Responsible for driving the industry / business unit specific quality requirements in projects and ensuring APQP activities are clear for the Project Manager and delivery owners
  • Guides the Project Manager in tailoring, implementation and management of the project delivery process whilst also providing the independent quality assurance / audit of the process, escalating risks and issues to stakeholders where required
  • Supports the Project Manager to ensure that the project scope, requirements, risks, and designs are managed, validated, and approved during development; and then ensures cost of quality performance metrics are tracked and reported in the success phase
  • Proactively drives the engineering and production teams with management and delivery of the part approval process (PPAP) to ensure maturation of the design into production
  • Leads FMEA, FTA and risk analysis where required and acts as an independent voice for other projects, keeps up to date with best practice and trains others where required
  • Facilitates reviews with the project teams to ensure proactive management of the Health and Safety, Design for Environment, and Product Safety processes / requirements within the project, drives creation of action plans to resolve issues and reports to stakeholders where necessary
  • Leads / supports the project in reviewing previous lessons learnt and facilitates lessons learnt reviews at appropriate milestones during project delivery
  • Supports customer instigated investigations by providing coaching / guidance to the technical owners in the use of problem-solving tools and root cause analysis, ensures improvements / corrective actions are implemented
  • Builds relationships internally within Business Unit and with Product owners to act as credible voice of the customer within business and product development
  • Inputs into the development and continuous improvement of the project delivery and QMS frameworks / processes, can act as a Project Manager of improvement projects if requested
  • Accounts for use of time, resources, and techniques to deliver quality requirements efficiently within projects

 

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience: 

  • Experience in project and / or supply quality assurance (one or more of the following):  Electronics / Electromechanical / Software delivery     
  • Engineering degree and / or equivalent quality qualifications (e.g. CQI / CIPS)
  • Experience of standards such as (one or more of the following): ISO9001, ISO/TS16949, ISO13485, ISO26262, ISO62304
  • Experience in using quality tools utilised in APQP, Six Sigma, PPAP, SQAP
  • Specialised depth and / or breadth of knowledge in multiple areas of expertise
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communicator at a senior level 
  • Strong analytical ability and an understanding of quality metrics, that can be used to justify actions
  • Experience in the field for leading external / internal audits
  • Practical experience of lean manufacturing, problem-solving, RCA and risk analysis activities
  • Experience of building effective close working relationships both internal and external to influence quality culture and challenge ways of working
