Quality Engineer - New Product Quality

Location: Woking, GB

As part of our Track25 business plan we will launch 18 new models or derivatives of our vehicles and look to expand our retailer network into new markets with an aim of having 100 retailers globally.  

Track 25 and McLaren Automotive’ s growing reputation is testament to our world class employees. To ensure McLaren Automotive continues to be at the forefront of the Automotive market, we are looking for a Quality Engineer to join our New Product Quality team.

Purpose of the role:

As a Quality Engineer within the New Product Quality team, your focus will be to carry out the analysis of complex problems during the New Product development phase, to ensure a smooth launch into the market. As a Quality Engineer, you will get involved in a number of key areas of the product development phase, 9 (Design reviews, Pre-Production build events, Vehicle dynamic shakedowns, and the McLaren Faults management process).

Principal accountabilities:

  • Clearly define of concerns highlighted during audit inspection.
  • Breakdown areas of concern using Data analysis
  • Timely introduction of Robust containment solutions
  • Route Cause Analysis of concern using the McLaren problem solving methodology
  • Application of Quality tools to establish direct cause of concern
  • Cross functional working with other business areas to identify long term countermeasures along with “Lessons Learnt” for future models
  • Attend Design Reviews where relevant and highlight areas of concern / consideration
  • Pre-production build activities
  • Dynamic shakedown RCA support

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of automotive manufacturing or similar industry
  • A degree in mechanical / automotive engineering or similar (2:1 or above) or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Previous root cause analysis (Six Sigma, 8D etc)
  • CATIA and GD&T experience (CATIA v5 & GD&T to BS8888 standard)
  • Working knowledge of FMEA and Design for Manufacture
  • New product development experience in the Automotive Industry preferred
  • Good problem-solving ability
  • Basic understanding of SPC, statistics and process capabilities

  • You may be required to travel to off-site development facilities, within the UK and throughout Europe, therefore a flexible approach to travel is required
  • Proven experience of working in a dedicated team environment as well as the ability to work as an individual
  • Self-starter capable of using initiative
  • Methodical approach to work with strong analytical skills
