Project Engineer - Infotainment Displays

Purpose of the Role: 

As Project Engineer – Display Systems you will be responsible for development and delivery of state-of-the-art automotive driver information and entertainment displays for current and future McLaren road cars. 

The cockpit electronics team is responsible for the specification, test and delivery of the display systems, which includes: developing specification documents, test case and procedure creation, automated testing support as well as component design and package studies and quality reviews. The role also requires, proof of concept development, quality reviews, supplier management and business reviews. 

The position requires a highly motivated and hands-on team player with an exceptional attention to detail, diligence, and a positive attitude. The fast-paced development and bespoke target platform provide a challenging environment suited to an engineer who can quickly develop skills in new areas and liaise with other engineers within a multidisciplinary team internal and external to McLaren.

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Project manage the development and implementation of driver and infotainment displays across all McLaren cars 

  • Write and update detailed specifications for driver and infotainment displays 

  • Lead integration of display systems and features with the infotainment system and overall vehicle architecture 

  • Assist with management of multiple hardware and software suppliers to deliver displays on time, on cost, and within quality and functional specifications 

  • Report on current activities, software, hardware & testing status and issues at a business level 

  • Manage cross functional teams to deliver DFMEA and vehicle validation plans 

  • Develop and co-ordinate DVP plans 

  • Ensure and sign-off launch readiness of hardware and software/firmware for production 

  • Test McLaren road cars with the latest features and content before release. 

  • Assist with fault finding and root cause analysis of software and hardware failures. 

  • Report bugs and create test reports 

  • Drive issue resolution with hardware and software suppliers 

  • Take responsibility for resolving display system issues on current production vehicles. 

  • Manage supplier relationships to deliver features and components on time 


Required Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience:  

  • Several years of work experience in development and delivery of electrical and electronic systems for automotive applications, preferably in Infotainment 

  • Experience of managing projects using risk management techniques  

  • Knowledge with CAD, packaging of components and assembly process. 

  • Understanding of ‘A-surface’ interactions and perceived quality concepts. 

  • Understanding in Automotive infotainment & Driver information systems. 

  • Experience of the Systems Development Lifecycle (V Model); writing system requirements, defining test cases and writing test procedures. 

  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a professional standard. 

  • Be well versed in the creation and maintenance of DFMEA's 

  • Organised, systematic and understand the process of fault finding. 

  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN/Ethernet and related tools such as CANoe/CANalyzer 

  • Familiar with issue tracking tools (Jira, Mantis, Bugzilla, etc.) 

  • Experience in hardware design and testing processes.

Educational Requirements: 

Degree qualified in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
