Purpose of the role:

As the Principal Legislation Engineer - Programmes, reporting directly to the Certification Manager, you are required to complete the necessary activities and documentation to gain the certification for global markets. Ensuring that McLaren Automotive’s products comply with the latest regulatory requirements throughout its lifecycle, monitoring key legislative change. You will be required to have a good understanding of technical leadership relating to complex and cross-functional systems. To provide McLaren Automotive with the ability to interact internally across most functions, and externally with certification agencies to ensure legal and compliant products are put on the marketplace. You will line manage a team of legislation engineers to support the development of new concepts and technologies, achieve the certification of McLaren Automotive’s products within budget and timing constraints, and support the Quality department for activities related to conformity of production.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Undertake Type Approval and Certification activities for global Markets for the business’ lead program
  • Create and maintain the timing plan for specific Type Approval and Certification activities for the business’ lead program.
  • Lead the team of legislation engineers to deliver certification testing for global markets for all of McLaren products. 
  • Support the Legislation Engineers through the development of their programs, ensuring GW targets are met.
  • Maintain close working relationships with function groups, attributes and development engineers to support programme goals as a key member of the engineering team.
  • Work closely with the Principal Legislation Engineer – Testing, to ensure that all certification test requirements are realised. 
  • Monitor emerging regulatory and legislative requirements affecting current and future models
  • Provide legislation interpretations and solutions to support the design of new products
  • Participate in industry forums where regulatory requirements are discussed 
  • Plan, monitor and expedite tests, documentation and certification reports.
  • Support the regional teams with launch and series development activities

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Engineering degree (II.I or higher) 
  • Vast experience of certification activities in key markets such as EU, US and China
