Purpose of the Role:

To provide data science expertise to external and internal clients in support of the business strategy.

Primarily operating at the pre-sales end of the sales lifecycle, to understand client needs and convert them into technical solutions using a combination of hands on data science skills (attainment, management, transformation and cleansing, analysis, modelling and simulation) alongside a holistic view of data solution architecture (maths and statistics, programming and databases, communication and visualization, transport domain/business knowledge).
Role Dimensions:  

A challenging customer facing technical role, requiring a multi-skilled flexible approach to managing complex problems and requirements. Unsociable hours and travel to be expected.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Researches, scopes and designs complex solutions to McLaren Applied Technologies Transport customers and partners.
  • Determines systems architect specifications and working parameters for system interoperability.
  • Ability to ascertain and comprehend customer requirements and problem statements.
  • Facilitate translation of business requirements and problems into technology understanding.
  • Communicate complex propositions and services, in conjunction with commercial team, to senior client representatives.
  • Create qualified product and service architecture scopes for engineering team to deliver against.
  • Develop specific product and service roadmap against Transport team business strategies including presentation and proof of concept material
  • Manage technical qualification of opportunities utilising bid gate review process.
  • Solves complex problems, takes a broad perspective to identify solutions.
  • Identify the appropriate engineering teams (connectivity, software, analytics, design, simulation, systems engineering, etc.) for each project and encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Identify and manage technical risk.
  • Work with the back office functions to provide market insight and improve best practice of standards and documentation.
  • Support product and solution roadmaps that reflect MAT product capabilities and expectation of McLaren brand.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in technical delivery within the transportation industry in a data science role.
  • Seen as a technical expert/advisor in the transport domain in the fields of data science and information exploitation.
  • Experience of transport modelling and simulation a bonus.
  • Ability to liaise professionally with client organisations at all levels.
  • Act as customer advocate in driving service improvement through the organisation.
  • Strong customer support skill and orientation, able to recover from negative positions.
  • Able to engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including CXO level, and work within a matrix organisation.
  • BEng, preferably in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
