The role

We are looking for a Client Technical Advisor to provide expertise in data science to external and internal clients in support of the business strategy. You will primarily operate at the pre-sales end of the sales lifecycle, to understand client needs and convert them into technical solutions using a combination of hands on data science skills alongside a holistic view of data solution architecture. 

This is a challenging customer facing technical role, requiring a multi-skilled flexible approach to managing complex problems and requirements. The ideal candidate will research, scope and design complex solutions to McLaren Applied Technologies Transport customers and partners. Determine systems architect specifications and work in parameters for system interoperability. The ideal candidate will have the ability to ascertain and comprehend customer requirements and problem statements. Facilitate translation of business requirements and problems into technology understanding. Communicate complex propositions and services, in conjunction with commercial teams, to senior client representatives.

As the Client Technical Advisor you will create qualified products and service architecture scopes for engineering teams to deliver against. Develop specific product and service roadmaps against Transport team business strategies including presentation and proof of concept material. Manage technical qualifications of opportunities utilising bid gate review process. Solve complex problems, takes a broad perspective to identify solutions. Identify the appropriate engineering teams (connectivity, software, analytics, design, simulation, systems engineering, etc.) for each project and encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The successful candidate will work closely with project managers to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within scope. Identify and manage technical risk. Whilst working with the back office functions to provide market insight and improve best practice of standards and documentation. Aswell as support product and solution roadmaps that reflect MAT product capabilities and expectation of McLaren brand.

Unsociable hours and travel to be expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of engineering, or equivalent
  • Proven experience in technical delivery within the transportation industry in a data science role.

Skills and expertise

  • Strong customer support skill and orientation, able to recover from negative positions.
  • Able to engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including CXO level, and work within a matrix organisation.
  • Seen as a technical expert/advisor in the transport domain in the fields of data science and information exploitation.
  • Experience of transport modelling and simulation a bonus.
  • Ability to liaise professionally with client organisations at all levels.
  • Act as customer advocate in driving service improvement through the organisation.

You will be based at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre. Our campus includes a subsidised restaurant, a café, a gym with a pool, break-out spaces, bicycle storage facilities and more. Our environment is designed to encourage collaborative working across all teams. You will be within one hundred metres of a specialist within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.
