Purpose of the role:

The Operational Excellence Support Manager will report into and assist the Head of Operational Excellence in the following disciplines : -

  • Following stabilisation, facilitate and Participate in Kaizen / Rapid Improvement events.
  • Train and coach team & plant personnel on the use of LEAN / Operational Excellence methodologies.
  • Provide first hand and strategic support in the development of the Operational Excellence Team.
  • Lead by example, working within their own functional area as well as cross functionally
  • Lead the Operational Excellence team to drive improvement in the business areas of Project Management, Safety, Quality, Cost Management, People Development and Product Delivery.
  • Lead the Operational Excellence team in scoping, specifying and delivering best operational practices in alignment with brand expectations.

Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques to optimize operations and the interaction between departments, to include:

  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • 5S / Workplace Organisation
  • Process Standardisation
  • Process & Value Stream analysis

Principal accountabilities:

  • Develop and control operational budgets to support programme business cases
  • Plan for the smooth integration of facilities, equipment and product
  • Support the wider business functions with the delivery of all program aspects from inception to full implementation and sustainment
  • Collate and provide program end reports on all lessons learned
  • Lead and develop the team in the generation of timing plans that support full program delivery activities
  • Work with the Operational Excellence Development Manager and the wider business functions to ensure safe working practices are implemented and upheld
  • Work with the Head of Operational Excellence in the scoping of all production volume scenarios during project phases
  • Lead the Operational Excellence team in problem solving initiatives
  • Lead the Operational Excellence team to implement issue containment for continuous improvement initiatives, such as “past point of fit”
  • Understand and control the cost drivers for your team
  • Initiate cost control and cost improvement activities
  • Support the Head of Operational Excellence in the achievement of the departmental budget
  • Develop immediate team capability, through skills gap identification, understanding both individual and team development needs and skills gap closure plan in line with business objectives
  • Lead the Operational Excellence Support team in the setting of clear objectives and monitor performance to ensure work is delivered on time and to the required standard
  • Support in addressing performance problems
  • Ensure all absence is correctly monitored and addressed in line with organisational practices
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team in the development of all vehicle assembly process feasibility activities such as PFMEA, line balancing, hours per car generation / reporting, facility layout planning


Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Previous experience managing people / team members is essential
  • Highly analytical and able to identify improvement opportunities from in-depth analysis of complex data
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) knowledge and application experience is essential
  • Lean Sigma Green Belt Certified a distinct advantage along with demonstrable documented evidence of a wide range of Business Process Improvement interventions
