For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 22 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives during this period.

Purpose of the role:

This is a pivotal role in the New Model team to ensure all New Build operational requirements are fulfilled, whilst having a fully trained proactive team supporting the future of McLaren VP builds and Ultimate series line, during a period of rapid and exciting business growth. Reporting directly to the Head of New Model, you will form part of the Senior New Model Team to proactively drive the department forwards meeting all build phase operational requirements, stock inhouse, picking materials and delivery OTIF to point of fit.

You will be responsible for managing and defining the in-depth operational areas and team within the New Model department at McLaren Automotive. This encompasses the storage and transfer of product across the two warehouse sites (3PL) product availability to support the on time in full replenishment of the New Model lineside, ensuring workplace health and safety requirements are met, control of stock, and productivity targets are achieved.

The ultimate aim is to exceed all customer expectations, internally and externally, providing the very best systems and solutions to support parts delivery to the VP build line/s at the most optimal cost, delivering in the most efficient and effective manner in order to achieve all business objectives against timing plans.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Leadership – To train, lead and motivate the New Model Operations team, ensuring the skill set in the team is cross functional across all areas of the business and networking to establish a well formative data driven and proactive team.
  • 3PL – Communication and interaction with key stakeholders within the 3PL business to ensure that New Model requirements are fully integrated, supported and delivered against all New Model Build phases (OTIF)
  • Issue Management - Point of escalation for leading, guiding and implementing solutions of systems and processes of all operational New Model areas, causes and countermeasure to prevent re-occurrence and a full root cause analysis is completed.
  • Operational Performance Management and Reporting – Ensure that the operations team is fully trained and all materials are available at point of fit that is in stock (including 3PL Materials) are delivered in a timely method to POF against all areas of the build phase/s. All appropriate headcount, processes, equipment, systems are reviewed on a regular basis to deliver the most efficient solutions. KPI’s to accommodate for future business planning and growth. Establish reports and KPIs to support daily operations and management of the respective functional areas.
  • Continuous Improvement – Review operational and systems performance on a frequent basis, against KPI matrix per area of the operation. Enabling clear visibility and communication to provide a data driven environment in developing the department forwards in a proactive manner. Reviewing each build phase and incorporating a format for lesson learnt for all future builds.
  • Financial Management – Operating within the department’s budget, all planning for any future operational requirements and builds to be supported with a detailed business case. KPI reporting and identifying all expenditure trends across the New Model operation.
  • Inventory Accuracy – To deliver a fully trained and equipped team against a training matrix driving sustainable improvement (Transactions & System Housekeeping) in inventory accuracy, engage with Team Leaders and Group Leaders to maintain focus on the key dependencies and behaviours to ensure accuracy across the business.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Extensive warehouse operations and inventory management experience gained with an automotive manufacturer.
  • Proven leader of teams, change management and the wider business.
  • Proven ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority.
  • Broad understanding of Material Control and Supplier Planners functions.
  • Experience in analysing, interpreting data and being of a data driven mindset.
  • Proven communication skills in written and verbal.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Presenting to Director level.
  • Knowledge and experience of New Model Build Phases.
  • Highly IT literate (Microsoft applications, especially Excel and SAP)
