The Manufacturing Engineer is a new product development and implementation role focusing on design for manufacturing principles to allow successful and efficient product introduction into production. Positioned between production and engineering this role is the main technical interface between the two and includes post design support work for products in production.


Reporting to the NPI Team Leader, you will be responsible for liaising with engineering, production and project teams to achieve the successful introduction of new products and the continued manufacturing support of our diverse product range.



  • Creating content-rich documentation, including interactive 3D models, videos; whatever you believe will improve and enhance the delivery of clear and concise assembly instructions
  • Migrating existing document packages over to the new format.
  • Providing & coordinating DFM (Design for Manufacture), DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFT (Design for Test) inputs on NPI designs.
  • Working with in-house design teams to ensure smooth and optimised new product introduction (NPI) into manufacturing and production readiness for prototype builds.
  • Obtaining and coordinating all manufacturing documentation / deliverables for NPI.
  • Supporting released products through their complete life-cycle.
  • Contribute to process FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
  • Pre & post production build reviews.
  • Specialised equipment identification and procurement.
  • Continued support for legacy products via the production quality circles thereby maintaining manufacturability.
  • Initiating & coordinating engineering changes in manufacturing.
  • Fully contribute to the process of continuous improvement and the company goal of achieving zero defects in accordance with ISO9001 certified quality management systems requirements.
  • Provide guidance on different approaches to development and delivery of solutions/systems that could yield better results.
  • Follows and communicates understanding of production procedures, processes and technical documentation.
  • Works autonomously within established procedures and practices.
  • Implementation of ECR’s (Engineering Change Requests) to product documentation.
  • Assist with introduction of products into the Aegis MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
  • Analyse build processes and products for cost improvements.



Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:


  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a combination of relevant education and work-related experience within an NPI Environment – a HND or HNC will be considered with strong supporting relevant experience.
  • Have developed proficiency in a range of processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job expertise.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant IPC standards.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of electro-mechanical products and manufacturing processes at both PCBA and box build/HL (High Level) assembly.
  • Good understanding of Mechanical production techniques
  • Organisational and interpersonal skills in relation to NPI engineering tasks.
  • Experience in creating manufacturing BOM structures for PCBA’s and Box build/HLA’s in conjunction with design to aid the manufacturing processes.
  • An understanding of industry standards and regulations thereby ensuring guidelines are followed, and machinery and equipment are operated safety.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to meet demanding project milestones.
  • Good PC skills.
  • Good time management.
  • Excellent attention to detail to maintain or exceed the high levels of production standards and efficiency.
  • Excellent attention to detail in relation to oral and written communication.
  • Facilitator and Negotiator - key element of role is the bringing together of cross functional teams and finding solutions to problems quickly.
  • Ability to fully contribute to the process of continuous improvement.
  • Good understanding of working in a similar high technology environment.
  • Understands the skills and experience of team members and key processes in relevant business area.
  • Ability to analyse, set, communicate, agree and implement targets.
  • Pragmatic person with the ability to see another person’s perspective. 
  • Experience of lean manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques – PCBA Surface mount and conventional assembly, machining and surface finishes.
  • Experience in product routings and workflows.
  • Experience of using or configuring an MES system, ideally Aegis FactoryLogix® - Desirable but not essential
