Purpose of the Role: 

The NPI / Manufacturing Engineer is a new product development and implementation role focusing on design for manufacturing principles to allow successful and efficient product introduction into production.  Sitting between production and engineering this role is the main technical interface between the two and also includes post design support work for existing products in production. Reporting to the Head of Electronics Production, you will be responsible for liaising with the engineering, production and project teams to achieve the successful introduction of new products and the continued manufacturing support of our diverse product range.

Role Dimensions: 

The role will require overtime during peak periods or as projects demand to ensure delivery of key objectives and responsibilities is achieved.

Principal Accountabilities: 

•    Providing & Coordinating DFM (Design for Manufacture) and DFT (Design for Test) inputs on NPI designs.
•    Working with in-house design teams to ensure smooth and optimised product introduction into manufacturing and production readiness for prototype builds.
•    Obtaining and coordinating all manufacturing documentation / deliverables for NPI.
•    Supporting released products through their complete life-cycle 
•    Working with the Test, Service & Repair team on service strategies & requirements for NPI.
•    Defining the assembly process to meet project, product and supply targets.
•    Contribute to process FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis). 
•    Pre & post production build reviews.
•    Specialised equipment identification and procurement.
•    Tooling design and manufacture.
•    Continued support for legacy products via the production quality circles to maintain manufacturability.
•    Initiating & coordinating engineering changes in manufacturing.
•    Fully contribute to the process of continuous improvements and company goal of achieving zero defects in accordance with ISO9001 certified quality management systems requirements.
•    Implementing and maintaining a high standard of new product documentation, created within engineering for use within production and ensuring full traceability.
•    Forecasts capability requirements for projects.
•    Inputs to planning and resource forecasting. 
•    Provides guidance on different approaches to development and delivery of solutions/systems that could yield better results.
•    Follows and communicates understanding of production procedures, processes and technical documentation.
•    Works autonomously within established procedures and practices.
•    Implementation of ECR’s (Engineering Change Requests) to product documentation.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience: ​

•    1st or 2nd class Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or combination of relevant education and work related experience within an NPI Environment – A HND or HNC will be considered with strong supporting relevant experience.

•    Has developed proficiency in a range of processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job expertise.
•    Comprehensive understanding of relevant IPC standards.
•    Good knowledge and understanding of electro-mechanical products and manufacturing processes at both PCBA and box build/HL (High Level) assembly.
•    Comprehensive understanding of industry standards and regulations in order to ensure guidelines are followed and machinery and equipment are operated safety.
•    Excellent project management, organisational and interpersonal skills in relation to NPI engineering tasks.
•    Experience in creating manufacturing BOM structures for PCBA’s and Box build/HLA’s in conjunction with design to aid the manufacturing processes.
•    Applicants should have previous experince of working with Electronics within the manufacturing industry.
•    Good PC skills.
•    Good time management.
•    Excellent attention to detail to maintain or exceed the high levels of production standards and efficiency.
•    Excellent attention to detail in relation to oral and written communication.
•    Facilitator and Negotiator - key element of role is the bringing together of cross functional teams and finding solutions to problems quickly.
•    Ability to fully contribute to the process of continuous improvements.
•    Good understanding of working in similar high technology environment.
•    Understands skills and experience of team members and key processes in relevant business area.
•    Ability to analyse, set, communicate, agree and implement targets.
•    Pragmatic person with the ability to see others perspective.  
•    Experience of lean manufacturing.
•    Knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques – Surface mount assembly, injection moulding, machining, surface finishes.
•    Experience in product routings and workflows.
