Purpose of the role:

The role of the Production Team Leader is to help us build the motorsport vehicles of McLaren Automotive’s future. You will be responsible for ensuring we achieve our targeted production volumes whilst playing a key part of developing processes and overall team and individual development.  

As Motorsport Production Team Leader you must have the confidence and determination to drive forward the business to ‘Best in Class’ performance standards in line with brand expectations

Principal accountabilities:

  • Provide first hand support in the development and launch into production future McLaren Automotive Motorsport platforms and variants
  • Understand & demonstrate a broad knowledge of the build process to provide training & assist when issues arise
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of production & business processes, i.e. quality, safety, cost, productivity
  • Provide cover for absence within your team and have a flexible approach to working hours as the business demands
  • Train & mentor Team Members to achieve high quality in working practices and processes
  • Assist the Group Leaders to produce maintenance schedules, monitor up time of machinery and ensure daily checks are conducted
  • Maintain Team Member versatility charts and ensure cross training & skills development
  • Take part in problem solving activities by assisting in analysis & resolution of problems and being able to define & determine appropriate actions
  • Ensure safe working practices are adhered to and that all Team Members are using the correct protective clothing
  • Ensure correct usage of tooling and equipment
  • Lead by example, influence all Team Members and ensure they are fully motivated

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Must be able to demonstrate a broad job knowledge of automotive processes and specific skills for the area in question
  • Appreciation & understanding of low volume vehicles or Track based cars
  • No formal qualifications are necessary, however a foundation degree in engineering would be preferred
  • Understanding and experience in a manufacturing/process driven environment is essential
  • Quality focused with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent motivational attributes
  • Good level of knowledge for Microsoft Office packages

  • Be prepared to coach and develop peer skill sets
  • Flexibility when working unsociable hours in support of meeting program targets and maintain a flexible approach to working hours as you may be required to work shifts or support other areas of production
  • An ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought
  • Demonstrate a methodical approach towards problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Taking receipt of guidance and instruction from multiple leadership direction.
