Motorsport Business Development Manager

The Role:

Reporting to the Head of Motorsport Business Development –  the Motorsport Business Development Manager will primarily identify, engage and win new business from MAT's premium clients and specialist motorsport projects, aligned to corporate objectives within our target markets with a core focus on Formula One. You will be expected to promote our portfolio of professional motorsport electronic product hardware, software and client services. This is to be achieved through a combination of winning brand-new business and also by taking market share from our competitors within these sectors. This role will require regular international travel.

 

External Responsibilities:

  • To work closely and maintain excellent working relationships with teams, manufacturers, individuals, race series promotors and regulatory bodies within professional motor racing and specifically, Formula One.
  • To formally present solutions back to our clients including leading on major bid and tender responses.Attend client events (particularly track events).
  • Attend relevant industry workshops 
  • In addition to promoting and selling existing MAT products and services, it is also essential to promote and sell new products in order to demonstrate growth.
  • Engage MAT with new clients in market sectors where on occasion, MAT currently has limited or no presence.

 

Internal Responsibilities:

  • A strong team player with a competitive spirit.Achieve quarterly and annual sales targets.
  • Ensure senior managers are kept briefed.
  • Provide input, guidance and clear objectives that will help define the BU strategy and tactical plans, which in turn will help ensure you succeed in achieving sales targets for your specific markets
  • Develop and manage account plans for each motorsport series and client within your remit.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of sales performanceMaintain a good awareness of needs of the business taking a lead in working with internal teams such as Commercial, Legal and Engineering to develop solutions for products and services that meet client’s requirements.
  • Provide input and support to developing quarterly and annually sales forecasting.
  • Identify and report back internally on external market drivers, trends and influences, (positive and negative).
  • Provide input and guidance for new product developments.
  • Work alongside other Managers in developing and growing existing markets through new product introduction.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the business, interacting and engaging in a professional way with good levels of communication.

Skills and Experience:

  • You will be working at very high level with our premium clients, therefore you will have a proven track record in Motorsport Business Development.
  • Develop and maintain an extensive list of networking contacts within the professional motorsport industry, ideally within Formula 1.
  • Must have a strong understanding of motorsport electronics and hybrid electric architectures
  • Must have experience and possess strong competitive bid writing skills and the ability to lead complex bid teams.
  • An understanding of assisting with internal business cases for internally and externally funded projects
  • Possess a qualification in either:
    • Degree in Automotive Mechanical or Electronic Engineering
    • MBA
    • Diploma in Automotive / Electronic Engineering
    • BTEC HNC / HND Electronic Engineering

You will be based at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre. Our campus includes a subsidised restaurant, a café, a gym with a pool, break-out spaces, bicycle storage facilities and more.

Our environment is designed to encourage collaborative working across all teams. You will work closely with other specialists within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.
