JOB DESCRIPTION: Model Maker                                DEPARTMENT: DESIGN  Reporting to: Functional Manager Model Making

  • Translate 2D themes into breath-taking physical properties “that tell the visual story of their function”.



  • Support all model making activities within the Design Department
  • Support Clay model making as core alongside hard model making and show car support.
  • Work within the wider CMD, CAS, Clay & Engineering teams; to present feasible design solutions at weekly design reviews.
  • Implement into all model making design intent, quality & manufacturing feasibility with aerodynamics, engineering and commercial requirements.
  • Communicate progress and critical issues to the Principal Model Maker and Head of model making.
  • Scan Clay models and create data sets to hand to CAS/Designers and model making suppliers
  • Create B Surface cad data for model making purposes
  • 3D print where needed to support physical properties.
  • Support C/O content requirements, look at efficiencies when procuring carry over content.
  • Attend Model making team meetings
  • Maintain a tidy work space.
  • Be a role model, live the values and communicate the design pillars to other departments.



  • Education in a design, modelling or pattern making background preferred.
  • Good verbal & written presentation skills.
  • Good physical modelling and surface design skills (hard modelling and clay).
  • PC literate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD CAM / work NC (milling and cutter path experience).
  • Basic understanding of ergonomics, aerodynamic principles & legal requirements.
