Job Title: Material Control & Planning Manager

                                                           

Department: Logistics

 

Reporting to: Head of Series Material Planning and Supply  

 

Purpose of the Role:

This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in helping to shape the future of McLaren Logistics during a period of rapid and exciting business growth. Reporting directly to the Head of series Material Planning & supply you will form part of the Senior Logistics Leadership Team.

You will be share responsibility for the Material Planning & supply control function of the Logistics business for McLaren Automotive. This encompasses the entire supply chain from material planning, supplier engagement and schedule adherence management, Material Control, cost management, and reporting.

 

The ultimate aim is to provide the very best possible parts availability to support production at the most optimal cost, delivered in the most efficient and effective manner in order to support the achievement of customer satisfaction and commercial business objectives.

 

Key Dimensions:

  • Parts Availability & Schedule Planning – Responsible for material planning and material control for a category of suppliers and products, ensuring the right parts are available at the right time to support production, new model introduction ramp up and series production run out.
  • Inventory strategy – Support the definition of the strategy and manage the end to end commercial costs and working capital in line with McLaren Automotive’s business objectives.
  • Leadership – To lead and motivate both Planning & the Material Control team and supporting Material Controllers to ensure that suppliers remain highly invested and focussed on delivery of stable 22 units per day production and KPI target achievement.
  • Supplier performance and Inventory Risk Reporting - Deliver accurate and regular reports and forecasts in order to provide maximum transparency for all stakeholders and to drive appropriate performance.
  • Business Integration - Interaction with key stakeholders within the wider business so as to ensure that Logistics plans are fully integrated and supported.
  • Issue Management - Point of escalation and leading the resolution of commercial, timing & supply constraints and contract discussions, freight issues, parts backorders, supply chain and operational challenges, and general supplier performance issues. All instances to be reviewed and rectification measures to be applied to prevent re-occurrence
  • Systems Management – Ensure that entire supply chain systems offer the most efficient solution and are scalable for future business growth
  • Supplier Management & Engagement – Ensure that suppliers are actively managed and monitored and fully understand Logistics requirements for the short, medium and long-term horizons. Regularly interact with current and potential Suppliers to understand market challenges, opportunities and to assess current performance vs. target. Drive requirement for business improvement plans where required
  • Continuous Improvement – Review performance on a frequent basis, identifying and proposing clear recommendations for improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Financial Management – Review complex numerical data, identify key trends, and develop clearly structured long-term projections for future parts growth
  • Customer Interface – Lead engagement with suppliers and customer (Production Leadership team) to assess risks and develop containments, recovery plans and mitigate impact on production volume.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Educated to Degree level
  • Extensive material control, supplier engagement, parts supply experience ideally gained with an automotive manufacturer
  • Proven leader in production / operations
  • Proven ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority
  • Broad understanding of global logistics challenges (legislation etc)
  • Proven ability to manage all aspects of complex supply chains from end to end
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting data
  • Proven communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Highly IT literate (Microsoft applications, SAP etc)
