Manufacturing Engineer - MSO

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is a division of McLaren Automotive, responsible for the design, development and delivery of personalised and bespoke vehicle commissions, performance details and options, as well as overseeing and ensuring McLaren legacy vehicles remain road worthy and up to date.  MSO products and services represent world class McLaren offerings and in doing so provides McLaren owners with virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes. 

We are looking for a manufacturing engineer to help grow our Operations department within MSO to help deliver against McLaren’s Track 25 business plan.

Purpose of the role:

As Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for the smooth integration of MSO products into the McLaren Production Centre production line & MSO Workshop.

In line with McLarens Track 25 business plan we will see more MSO content on our vehicles so this role will play a critical part in ensuring the successful delivery of our content on time and to our customers exacting standards.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the Project Leaders and the Engineering function leads in the generation of timing plans that support full program delivery activities
  • Support the Project Engineering and Production Team to ensure all quality targets are correctly specified and achieved
  • Work closely with the Engineering and Development organisation throughout the MDP phases to ensure the products are brought to market on time, on budget at the required quality and volume ramp levels
  • Develop & deliver all vehicle assembly process feasibility activities
  • Provide MSO content support to the Pilot Build team during all prototype build phases on new vehicle programs, including supporting Virtual Build and Manpower Planning activities
  • Define where hand tooling &/ bespoke tooling requirements will be required
  • Work closely with, Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality Assurance and Production Planning to coordinate the smooth introduction into production of new models and derivatives
  • Build relationships with main business Manufacturing Engineering teams to deliver all program aspects from inception into production

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • A degree in mechanical / automotive engineering or similar (2:1 or above) or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Ideally you will have experience with:
    • Specification and procurement of major assembly equipment
    • Planning and execution of new vehicle programs
    • Complex vehicle systems.
    • Vehicle assembly processes
    • Trim and final processes
    • End of line vehicle processing / finishing
    • Identifying resolutions for product related issues, ensuring all quality targets are achieved
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and acute attention to detail
