Manager of Infrastructure Projects

The one constant at McLaren is Change. Our role in MSL FM is to support and advise on how best to provide for that evolution, while maintaining the impact of our heritage & brand. 
Purpose of the Role

  • This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in helping to shape the future of McLaren across the three business entities. We are coming to the end of the rapid growth period, but there will be continual change and a more gradual growth over the next decade. The Manager of Infrastructure Projects will be a key role with FM MSL, ensuring we employ strategic and intelligent solutions that enhance our performance and capability.  
  • This role will report directly to the Head of Infrastructure & will take responsibility for key, large infrastructure projects across the campus.
  • You will form the final part of the FM leadership team, one of a number of  roles.
  • You will be fully responsible for managing and defining the operational and commercial solution for infrastructure projects within the 3 business, as defined by them. You will drive and support in the development & leadership of a motivated and dynamic team, capable of advising the businesses at a technical and professional level. You will also be expected to lead specific projects, from concept to delivery.You will be expected to assist the businesses in the development of their individual business cases, such that the total cost of each project is fully transparent to the CEO & CFO of the business.
  • The ultimate aim is to build a high performing, professional team. You will be capable of advising the businesses as well as running projects. You will provide the very best possible systems and solutions to support capability & performance enhancement. This has to take into account the development of the most optimal cost solution. You will be expected to develop thought provoking solutions and to “call out” opportunities and synergy possibilities that the individual businesses may not have considered.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Leadership – To work as part of the infrastructure team within FM, reporting & advising the Head of department. To be an active example and motivate the FM infrastructure team as well as supporting your peers within FM. Develop the infrastructure capability & team.
  • Delivery – Produce time line and project plans, with contingency as well as supporting financial plans. Ensuring that legal and corporate responsibility is understood and observed with authorities
  • Stakeholder management - Interaction with key stakeholders across the three businesses to ensure that plans are fully integrated and supported. The goal is not to alienate individuals, however concensus on the plan sometimes means delivering and managing “bad news” to people. Therefore mature honesty and transparency is imperative. Performance is managed real time and the commercial negotiation and agreement is fully supported.
  • Issue Management - Point of escalation and leading the resolution of concerns, systems and process constraints, discussions, and issues. All instances to be reviewed and rectification measures to be applied to prevent re-occurrence. Selective escalation to Senior personal on a case by case basis
  • Operational Management and Reporting – Ensure that project solutions are underpinned by appropriate headcount, finances, resources, equipment & systems that offer the most efficient solution and are scalable for future business growth. Establish reports and KPIs to support project management that are consistent and easily understood – “Grasp the situation easily”.
  • Continuous Improvement – Review projects on a regular basis, identifying and proposing clear recommendations for improvements in delivery & effectiveness.
  • Financial Management – Review complex numerical data, identify key trends and develop clearly structured long-term projections for Investment and Operating cost.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Practical Professional experience is preferred of formal qualification. Academic qualifications are a bonus but could be added later
  • Extensive knowledge of equipment specification &  project management systems & regulations
  • Proven leader of projects, with strong delivery
  • Proven ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority
  • Broad understanding of the three businesses at McLaren
  • Proven ability to manage all aspects of complex projects from end to end
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting data
  • Proven communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • IT literate (Microsoft applications, SAP etc)
