McLaren Special Operations create cars around an owner’s precise tastes, and provide everything from bespoke customisation options through to building ultra-exclusive limited-edition or one-off breath-taking models.

Following the launch of the 720S at Geneva, MSO displayed Velocity to give customers a taste of the levels of customisation available to them through MSO. To help us we have a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Operations team as a Buyer.

Purpose of the role:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual to support the Buying and Material control processes within the MSO Heritage and Bespoke arena.  The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the requirements of the MSO Workshop, understanding the part requirements of each vehicle and ensuring they are provided at the right price, on time and in full.

The successful candidate will need to develop the processes and ways of working, working closely with the MSO logistics and Workshop operatives. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate keen to make their mark on a thriving part of the McLaren business.

Principle accountabilities:

  • Manage cost and delivery for MSO on requirements for parts in the MSO workshop.
  • Working with the internal business to ensure that part risks/shortages are highlighted and efficiently managed
  • Forming and maintaining appropriate relationships within MSO suppliers, ensuring they are transparent and mutually beneficial
  • Understanding the sequence of cars coming into the workshop and ensuring that buying and material control activities are done up front to ensure OTIF delivery.
  • Work with the MAL business and MSO Stores to get parts requisitioned on time to support MSO builds
  • Develop processes to improve part delivery and tracking
  • Quickly move vehicles through MSO, minimising capital tied up in these cars, by providing parts on time.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Must have strong Planning and Material Control experience, preferably within the automotive industry
  • Must have a commercial awareness and desire to learn purchasing skills.
  • Be structured in your approaches to part supply management
  • Good IT skills particularly in Microsoft Excel and SAP
  • Technical automotive/engineering knowledge is an advantage

  • Must be self motivated, pro active and work well within a team
  • Have a flexible attitude to working hours and practices
  • Be willing to travel with occasional stays overnight
  • Have excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Honest and transparent in their ways of working
