Homologation Engineer - McLaren Special Operations

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is a division of McLaren Automotive, responsible for the design, development and delivery of personalised and bespoke vehicle commissions, performance details and options, as well as overseeing and ensuring McLaren legacy vehicles remain road worthy and up to date.  MSO products and services represent world class McLaren offerings and in doing so provides McLaren owners with virtually limitless possibilities to tailor a car exactly to their needs and tastes.

A brand new opportunity has arisen to join the MSO Engineering team as a Homologation Engineer.

Purpose of the role:

As Legislation Engineer you will work closely with the MSO Engineering Team and the main business Legislation Team to complete the necessary activities and documentation to gain certification on MSO products for global markets.

This is a unique role within MSO as we look to continually develop our products with the vision of being the world leader in Bespoke Automotive content.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Support the development of new concepts and technologies to achieve the required certification.
  • Undertake Type Approval and Certification activities for global Markets
  • Provide understanding and interpretation of relevant Regulations
  • Act as a link between MSO and the Legislation Team
  • Create and maintain timing plans for specific Type Approval and Certification activities
  • Plan, monitor and expedite tests, documentation, and certification reports
  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies, as necessary to secure Type Approval and Certification
  • Support the regional teams with launch and series development activities
  • Maintain close working relationships with function groups, attributes, and development engineers to support programme goals as a key member of the engineering team

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Knowledge of Vehicle certification requirements and processes in key markets such as EU, US and China
  • Good technical understanding of automotive products relating to powertrain systems, vehicle structural behaviour and chassis systems.
  • Engineering degree
  • Ideally a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with a strong focus on CPD activities
  • Ability to prepare and manage plans and budgets
  • Experience of working on low volume, high performance vehicle programmes would be highly beneficial
