Lead Engineer - Body Interior

Purpose of the role:

Despite more than 30 years of history in making carbon fibre race and sports cars, at McLaren we believe in a future aggressive rate of innovation in carbon fibre composites design and technology together with high quality and luxury leather trimming. We are looking for an individual that shares our vision on craftsmanship, carbon and interior and will help us turning this vision into real, innovative and outstanding sports cars.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Reporting to the Engineering Manager, working on all aspects of Body Interior delivery on one of our future vehicle programmes.
  •  “Cradle to Grave” approach – working within a cross functional team from R&D stage, through concept, design release, production launch and series production support to collectively deliver the whole vehicle specification targets and contribute to the overall business KPIs.
  • Responsible for supporting nomination of and leading the selected outsource engineering partner to deliver the programme.
  • Working on a wide range of systems and components such as Dashboard, Door casings, Tunnel console, Upper and lower trim carpets and ambient lighting.
  • Representing Body Interior department in McLarens Super Series vehicle line and supporting the Vehicle Line Manager in delivering programme objectives and gateway milestones.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Engineering degree 2:1 or above or equivalent experience
  • Experience of automotive programmes preferably in Interior and low volume/high performance sports cars
  • Knowledge of Interior specific regulation and development boundaries
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and its application in automotive environment
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Specialist knowledge in interior material and manufacturing technologies such as Injection mouldings, Trimming and wrapping, Castings, Machine from solid, Thermoforming
  • Literacy in CATIA V5 or V6, CDM or VPM and DMU tools
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen
  • Experience in project management. Knowledge of PM systems would be advantageous
