For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 22 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives during this period.

The Head of Quality Operations role is essential for us to strategically plan and execute the growth of McLaren Automotive and achieve the highly ambitious targets we set ourselves within the Track 22 business plan.

Purpose of the role:

  • Effectively plan and influence the Quality Control of the product from early project stages
  • Co-ordinate and control the product quality through the manufacturing process to final buy off
  • Manage a self evaluating system that assures a standardised inspection process aligned to a Quality Control Plan
  • Ensure quality, cost and delivery levels are achieved and continuously improved.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Create and maintain a standardised inspection package for all areas of operational quality
  • Develop comprehensive and clear operational Quality Standards for use in the standardised inspection process
  • Work cross functionally to drive quality principles into every aspect of our business
  • Develop and maintain a set of agreed Quality metrics to provide a clear measure of the manufacturing process
  • Use the agreed Quality metrics and a structured process to drive prioritised problems to resolution
  • Provide urgent containment response to issues found in both Warranty and MPA


  • Work with all departments to achieve quality targets
  • Own the Quality metric from Manufacturing through to Warranty
  • Support, drive and participate in prioritised problem solving activities
  • Implement relevant streamlined quality philosophies and practices
  • Migrate quality concepts and attitudes to RFT received rather than inspected in quality
  • Work with Engineering and Quality teams to continuously improve quality in build project phases.

Managing People

  • Develop the Operations team to be strong, knowledgeable and dependable in the inspection and application of quality standards
  • Set clear objectives and monitor performance to ensure required standard is delivered on time
  • Support in addressing performance problems in a timely fashion


  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, SQA and Production planning to coordinate the smooth introduction into production of new models and derivatives
  • Work closely with the Engineering and Development organisations throughout the MDP to ensure products are brought to market on time, on budget and at the required quality

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Experience with an Automotive Production environment is essential
  • Demonstrate capability through experience of different areas within manufacturing quality and processes.
  • Understand of developing, implementing and evolving processes
  • Ability to work with all areas of the business to ensure the continuous improvement of manufacturing quality,
  • Desire, passion & knowledge to improve the overall quality of the car from process right first time, to 36 MIS warranty.

  • Strong character with the ability to be pragmatic
  • Excellent motivational, coaching and leadership skills
  • Must be able to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority
  • The determination to drive forward the business to ‘Best in Class’ performance standards
  • Must be capable of lateral thinking and be able to make structured and objective decisions
  • Must be able to demonstrate a methodical approach towards problem solving
