For the next 6 years as part of McLaren’s Track 22 plan, we are looking to invest £1 billion into Research and Development, leading to the launch of 15 all-new cars or derivatives during this period.

 

Purpose of the role:

This is an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in helping to shape the future of McLaren New Model Launch and Logistics  during a period of rapid and exciting business growth. In this role, you will form part of the Senior New Model and Logistics Leadership Teams. You will be fully responsible for establishing the strategies for Material Planning, Material Control and Logistics Operations functional areas for the:

McLaren Ultimate Series vehicles

New Model Launch Pre-Production Build phases.

 

The ultimate aim is to provide the very best possible parts availability to production at the most optimal cost, delivered in the most efficient and effective manner in order to achieve customer satisfaction and commercial business objectives.

 

MATERIAL PLANNING AND MATERIAL CONTROL : This encompasses supplier engagement and schedule adherence management, Material Control, budget setting, inventory forecasting and optimisation, engineering change management,  Inbound freight and cost management, and regular reporting to senior level audience. Material delivery validation and assurance of Supplier and supply chain readiness for new model launches and volume ramp to achieve McLaren’s Track 22 business plan. Robust planning and execution of seamless transfer of Material Control operations from Pre-production Material Control team to Series Material Control team.

 

LOGISTICS OPERATIONS: Material flow and handling from suppliers to Production Lineside, Stock accuracy and transaction quality. Validation and assurance of Logistics operational readiness for new model launches and volume ramp up to achieve McLaren’s Track 22 business plan. Robust planning and execution of seamless transfer of Logistics operations from Pre-production Logistics team to Series Logistics team.

 

Principal accountabilities:

Parts Availability – Full responsibility for overall Parts material planning and material control, ensuring the right parts are available at the right time to support New Model Pre-Production Build phases, series production ramp up and build of Ultimate series vehicles.

 

Delivery – Material flow and handling to ensure that material is delivered lineside on time and in full, maintaining the quality.

 

3PL - Interaction with key stakeholders within the 3PL business to ensure that Logistics plans are fully integrated and supported.

 

Operational Management and Reporting – Ensure that the warehouse operations and Production lineside solution are underpinned by appropriate headcount, equipment, systems that offer the most efficient solution and are scalable for future business growth. Establish reports and KPIs to support daily operations and management of the respective functional areas.

 

Continuous Improvement – Review operational and systems performance on a frequent basis, identifying and proposing clear recommendations for improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Inventory Control - Ensure that inventory levels are realistic and cost effective - balancing pick availability with prudent cost control to achieve business cash flow objectives, proactively mitigating the risk of obsolescence and unproductive stock levels

 

Inventory strategy – Define the strategy and manage the end to end commercial costs and working capital in line with McLaren Automotive’s business objectives.

 

Leadership – To lead and motivate the entire Material Planning and Logistics Operations team and all supporting suppliers in order to ensure that they remain highly invested and focussed on delivery of stable production and KPI target achievement.

 

Supplier performance and Inventory Reporting - Deliver accurate and regular reports and forecasts in order to provide maximum transparency for all stakeholders and to drive appropriate performance.

 

Material Planning Strategy – Define long range strategic plans and business model for Material Planning based on future business plans to ensure that the operation is well prepared and positioned for future challenges and rapid business growth.

 

Business Integration - Interaction with key stakeholders within the wider business so as to ensure that McLaren Ultimate Series vehicles and New Model Pre-Production Build plans are fully integrated and supported.

 

Issue Management - Point of escalation and leading the resolution of schedule, timing and supply constraints and contract discussions, freight issues, parts backorders, supply chain and operational challenges, and general supplier performance issues. All instances to be reviewed and rectification measures to be applied to prevent re-occurrence.

 

Systems Management – Ensure that entire supply chain systems offer the most efficient solution and are scalable for future business growth.

 

Supplier Management & Engagement – Ensure that suppliers are actively managed and monitored and fully understand Logistics requirements for the short, medium and long-term horizons. Regularly interact with current and potential Suppliers to understand market challenges, opportunities and to assess current performance vs. target. Drive requirement for business improvement plans where required.

 

Continuous Improvement – Review performance on a frequent basis, identifying and proposing clear recommendations for improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Financial Management – Review complex numerical data, identify key trends and develop clearly structured long-term projections for future parts growth.

 

Customer Interface – Lead engagement with suppliers and customer (Production Leadership team) to assess risks and develop containments, recovery plans and mitigate impact on production volume.

 

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Educated to Degree level
  • Extensive Logistics engineering and Operations experience ideally gained with an automotive manufacturer
  • Proven leader of teams and change management
  • Proven ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority
  • Broad understanding of global distribution challenges (legislation etc)
  • Proven ability to manage all aspects of complex supply chains from end to end
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting data
  • Proven communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Highly IT literate (Microsoft applications, SAP etc)
