With this in mind an exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Head of New Product Quality for McLaren Automotive.


You will currently be a leader who is experienced in Automotive New Product Quality Planning.


It is important that you are comfortable working in both forward planning as well as operational manufacturing during the launch phase.


Naturally we are looking for someone of sufficient character who will take responsibility for creating and owning the highly ambitious McLaren New Product Quality Plan which will work alongside our McLaren Delivery Plan to plan and manage the development of new products on time with predictable and capable quality performance.


This role is new to our organisation and you will have the opportunity to build and shape our approach to new model launch quality – it will require experience, determination, enthusiasm and pragmatism, rewarded with immediate impact on our manufacturing, dealer and customer experience.


Role Dimensions:


  • Develop and agree a companywide New Product Quality Plan that will govern a set of deliverables on all vehicle launches to assure capable, predictable Quality.
  • Build a New Product Quality structure that can deliver the governance plan supporting “Cradle to Grave” responsibility for agreed content for all product launch.
  • Work with the ethos of predict, prevent and application of lessons learnt as prioritised importance during the launch process.
  • Work with both internal and external feedback to positively influence customer metrics.
  • Effectively influence the Quality of the product all through the project stages.
  • Align a departmental business plan to achieve the company objectives cascaded through the New Product Quality department by use of scorecards.
  • Strategically plan and execute the continuous improvement of McLaren Automotive product.
  • Co-ordinate improvement activities with all responsible departments within McLaren Automotive.


Principal Accountabilities:


  • Governance of the New Product Quality vehicle development plan through all stages of the vehicle project.
  • Organisation and management of the New Product Quality team.
  • Integrate New Product Quality into the Quality department structure providing seamless ownership of product development.
  • Ensure quality, cost and delivery levels are achieved and continuously improved.
  • Completion of the McLaren Development Plan deliverables applicable to the New Product Quality team.
  • Own and maintain a set of metrics that clearly demonstrates the performance of our Launch deliverables.
  • Own the fault management of all vehicle development issues and appropriate visibility / escalation
  • Support the Executive Director of Quality on the timely delivery of all aspects of the role.
  • Work closely with Product Development, Project management, SQA and Operational teams manage the smooth introduction into production of new models and derivatives.


Health and Safety


  • Work with the company Directors to ensure safe working practices.
  • Ensure all staff maintain and use appropriate PPE.
  • Support in the investigation of near misses and accidents.




  • Work with all departments to achieve quality targets.
  • Develop and own a Launch Quality Metric representing early customer experience.
  • Support, drive and participate in prioritised problem solving activities.
  • Implement relevant streamlined quality philosophies and practices.
  • Work with Engineering and Quality teams to continuously improve quality in all project phases.


Managing People


  • Develop the New Product Quality team to be strong, knowledgeable and dependable in the management, governance and delivery of the Launch Quality Plan.
  • Set clear objectives and monitor performance to ensure required standard is delivered on time.
  • Assist in the training of others.
  • Act as a mentor to new / trainee staff.
  • Care for team members. Work with managers and HR to ensure “well-being” of staff.
  • Support in addressing performance problems in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct yourself appropriately when on company premises and when working offsite.
  • Ensure the worksite is tidy, clean and orderly at all times.




  • Carry out other tasks as required by the business.
