The Role:

This is a great opportunity to join our HR team to support the delivery of our long-term business plan through the development and delivery of integrated HR solutions. This is a Maternity Cover for approx. 12 months.


This role requires a true mix of operational HR expertise and strategic thinking which supports and implements the HR strategy, providing direction to senior stakeholders in McLaren Applied Technologies. We are seeking a solution focused generalist HR professional with substantial experience in advising senior managers on best HR practice approaches.


You will lead a small team of HR professionals and will possess excellent coaching skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with senior leaders and managers to influence when appropriate and to stay close to business challenges.


Working closely with the Recruitment Business Partner you will develop the Employer Value Proposition and bring it to life through business practices such as onboarding, recognition, reward, and learning, using data to measure success.



  • Build a deep understanding of McLaren Applied Technologies and its strategic priorities, and goals to support the development of HR strategies needed to achieve them.
  • Partner with managers, heads of departments and relevant Exec members across the business to advise and support on a wide range of tactical employee related issues including organisation design, and engagement strategies in line with the overall business strategy.
  • Take ownership for the delivery of qualitative and quantitative data to the Exec team and senior management to highlight business successes, challenges, and risks.
  • Lead the talent management process, including its development to ensure it is useful and achieving our talent goals, plus you will lead and manage the annual salary and bonus process.
  • Provide reliable and trusted employment law advice.
  • Provide strong leadership to HR Advisor, HR Assistant and HR Administrator ensuring the team effectively and efficiently delivers.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with senior leaders and managers to influence when appropriate and to stay close to business challenges.
  • Proactively gauge employee engagement in functional areas and implement solutions as required.
  • Deputise Head of HR in their absence.



  • Level 7 CIPD qualified
  • Good Excel knowledge
  • Experience of leading a small team of HR professionals

  • Ability to analyse and solve complex problems and develop a range of solutions that create and add value
  • A clear understanding of the business drivers and how HR can play a key role in the success of the organisation.
  • Experience of developing business practices that support overall business goals.
  • Extensive experience of managing complex employee relations issues.
  • Experience of managing organisational restructuring in a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of all resourcing related processes from performance management to succession planning to exit from the business
  • Up to date understanding of HR trends
  • Demonstrable understanding of employee engagement, with practical examples of how to improve it in the workplace.
  • Ability to be flexible in approach to meet customer requirements.
  • Good IT skills including MS Office packages Word, Excel and Outlook, SAP experience desirable

The Work Environment

You will be based at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre. Our campus includes a subsidised restaurant, a café, a gym with a pool, break-out spaces, bicycle storage facilities and more.

Our environment is designed to encourage collaborative working across all teams. You will be within one hundred meters of a specialist within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.
