Purpose of the Role:

 

The Enterprise Architecture team develops, maintains and assures the delivery of three-year technology roadmaps aligning business requirements to platforms of IT capability, and identifying resources, investment and operational change required to deliver. Working across the entire McLaren Technology Group the Enterprise Architecture team also provides a solution architecture function, analysing immediate business change requirements, identifying good-fit technology solutions and working with other colleagues in IT and the business functions to ensure a smooth and successful delivery.

 

The role of Graduate Solutions Architect covers a broad cross section of solutions, technical, and enterprise architecture from requirements gathering, through options analysis, proof of concepts, design, and handover to deployment and run. With a continual focus on innovation and making full use of existing platforms the role holder will develop their skills in delivering agile solutions architecture to a fast-paced business.

 

Role Dimensions:

 

  • Close liaison with Enterprise Architecture Manager to prioritise workload.
  • Work closely with rest of Solutions Architecture team and domain subject experts to understand current IT landscape and future requirements,
  • Work closely with other business stakeholders, 3rd party vendors, and Marketing partners to ensure technology choices are aligned to business requirements.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Engage with business stakeholders to define and gather requirements, completing concept forms and project briefs as required.
  • Engage with other IT domain experts to understand technology requirements and use this information to help populate and define three-year technology roadmaps.
  • Complete high level and low level solution designs and documentations, working with domain experts and third party suppliers to validate design decisions
  • Investigate, evaluate, review and document new techniques and capabilities in the technology market (running PoC’s, attending appropriate seminars and conferences).
  • Prioritise and organise work to meet deadlines and support team goals
  • Work independently as well as part of a team to deliver quality solution architecture products and represent the best of McLaren IT

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computing and Business, or equivalent discipline – minimum of 2.1 (predicted, if yet to graduate).
  • Experience in, or demonstrated understanding of:
    • Requirements gathering and playback
    • Gap analysis and options assessment
    • Hands on approach to running technical proof of concepts
    • Creating technical documentation, presentations and analysis papers
  • Knowledge of project management lifecycle
  • Ability to build and maintain strong on-going business with internal and external customers.
  • Passion for technology – driven individual with a desire to understand existing and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with effective technical presentation skills and a desire to learn influencing and negotiating techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
