The Quality team with McLaren Applied Technologies is an integral part of our growth strategy  for  the business. The Project Quality team are responsible for driving efficiency and quality within project delivery, due to strong customer demand and growth we require several talented and determined individuals to meet the development plans for the team. We are looking to build a team with a diverse quality skillset to manage the Quality activities on a wide range of exciting and cutting edge projects that are being delivered within  Motorsport, Automotive, Transport and Health industries.

The role

We have a requirement for a Functional Safety Process Engineer to support the development activities of electronic control systems within our Vehicle Systems team. The team is responsible for multiple developments from bespoke design of Automotive ECUs to system installations of COTs equipment in the railway and aerospace sectors. This position requires a meticulous and highly motivated engineer to drive functional safety requirements through the product safety lifecycle. Prime responsibilities will be the management of a standard functional safety ISO26262 process application within the organization for our system, hardware and software Automotive developments. As a mentor for ISO26262 process best practices, through process definitions you will continuously guide and support engineering teams for the development of ISO26262 requirements.

In regard of ISO26262 process requirements, the major objectives are:

  • To lead process audits within the organization and raise gap analysis
  • To define and maintain applicable process within the organization to meet expected ISO26262 lifecycles of Part 4 (System), Part 5 (Hardware) and Part 6 (Software)
  • To define and maintain templates that address required work products of ISO26262 in order to guide their completion by engineering teams
  • To define and maintain guidelines that address required work products of ISO26262 in order to support engineering teams to fulfil the ISO26262 requirements
  • To define and maintain checklists that will be used to review the work products (Verification review, Confirmation review)
  • To conduct ISO26262 Audits and Assessments when highest degree of independence is i2
  • To be a key-member that spread the safety culture within the organization
  • To play an active role for the completion of the ultimate Functional Safety Release for Production

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in a related engineering subject
  • A thorough understanding of the design process from concept to design, implementation and test. Ideally within a ISO26262, IEC61508, DO-178 project environment, CMMI or Automotive SPICE
  • Ideally have dealt with System, Hardware or Software developments and functional safety in Automotive
  • Ideally have a background in implementing ISO26262 Process and Best Practices within an organization
  • Ideally you have a background in working session leading to continuous improvement for Methodology, Template and Safety Culture within an organization
  • Having an experience of Safety Manager according to ISO26262 definition is also appreciated
  • Requirements Managements Tools (Polarion, DOORS)

The work environment

You will be based at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre. Our campus includes a subsidised restaurant, a café, a gym with a pool, break-out spaces, bicycle storage facilities and more. You will be within one hundred metres of a specialist within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.

The recruitment process

  • If your application is successful, you’ll be invited for a phone interview with one of our experienced technical recruiters.
  • If our recruiter believes you’re suitable for the role, you will then be invited for a phone interview with the hiring manager which will last approximately 60 minutes.
  • The final stage includes a face to face interview at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. This is usually with the Hiring Manager, and a Senior member of the Quality, Risk and Safety team. The interview will involve a series of skills based technical questions and problem solving or design challenges.
