Purpose of the Role:

To act as the main point of contact for Formula E series organisers & stakeholders, F.I.A., manufacturers and the Formula E Teams who are using the MAT Supplied Formula E Season 5 battery. To manage operations and logistics, and monitor the performance of the batteries whilst advising the Formula E teams and manufacturers of best practice and ensuring that MAT and the trackside staff provide the best possible customer service.

 

Role Dimensions: A full time role for an engineer with motorsport experience willing to develop his/her role to a trackside activity and a leadership role from across the business. Extensive travel will be required, likely to be 1 week around each of 10-12 races plus an additional 3-5 weeks of test support and visits to customers and technical partners.

 

 

 

 

The Role

 

 

  • As a Formula E Systems Operations Team Leader  you will take overall responsibility for the supply and use of the Formula E battery by the Formula E Teams in:
    • Being the main trackside contact of Formula E Operations Ltd, FIA and the teams/manufacturers,
    • Organising the planning and rotation of resources trackside to solve and manage technical issues experienced by the teams,
    • Managing the trackside operations and the logistics of the batteries & equipment with the logistics company assigned to the Formula E championship,
  • You will lead a group of Support Engineers and Support Technicians during races and tests and your responsibilities will include:
    • Ensuring Health & Safety best practice trackside,
    • Supporting the teams with installation and operational issues and queries.
    • Support and diagnosis of technical issues experienced by the teams.
    • Having an overview of and being competent in High Voltage Electronics, code loading and configuration management of the Battery Management System (BMS) and associated hardware.
    • Data Analysis and Health and Usage Monitoring of key parameters to ensure that any failures are caught early and issues that might impact performance are caught and mitigated early.
    • Liaising constantly with the Battery Systems Technical Lead, and reporting issues and area of improvements to both Formula E Battery Project and Product Management,

 

You:

 

  • A good communicator with the ability to capture information quickly and accurately.

  • Willing to travel and able to represent MAT at Formula E race and test venues around the world.
  • Have a good understanding of all the electronic elements and hybrid systems of high end motorsport systems.
  • Ideally experiene of control systems engineering or trackside experience in high end motorsport (F1 or LMP1), ideally with High Voltage equipment.
  • Experience with the following tools and technologies is required:
    • Data analysis tools such as ATLAS
    • Control systems (MATLAB/Simulink experience would be advantageous)
    • ECU set-up tools such as System Monitor
    • Excel, generation of forms and maintenance of VB macros
  • Knowledge of battery technology including charging, discharging and derate limits would be advantageous,
  • Able to engage with a broad range of external customers and internal stakeholders, and able to deal with confidential information. A high level of integrity is required.
  • Team work driven and able to cope with tight deadlines under pressure.
  • French or/and German speaking would be an advantage.
