Purpose of the Role:
The Finance Solutions Analyst, working within McLaren Group IT, is responsible for the support and development of the Financial Business Solutions applications. The primary role is to provide functional and technical support to the Finance groups, particularly in the McLaren Automotive business, to deliver world class business applications.
This will involve working closely with senior management, wider business stakeholders and SAP CoE colleagues to provide Finance application technical and process expertise, manage the efficient handling and resolution of business issues and deliver against the longer-term application roadmap.


  • Provide functional and technical expertise to leverage the capabilities of SAP FI, CO and PS applications
  • Close liaison with business key users for investigating, analysing, solution determination and implementation of Financial business solutions to meet new business requirements
  • Drive 3rd party support partners to deliver world class support and development
  • Contribute to, and ensure the timely resolution of, level 2 and 3 incidents, service requests and problems within Finance solutions
  • Monitor the adherence to key business processes and, where improvement is needed, collaboratively introduce appropriate activities with business users to drive adoption.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work alongside team members to provide functional expertise and guidance on leveraging the capabilities of SAP FI, CO and PS and other applications to business stakeholders
  • Extract and document fundamental requirements from key business users, then determine suitable solutions with which to fulfil them
  • Communicate and present proposed solutions to a broad business community, publicise the consequences and impacts, then own the solution through to delivery
  • Produce end-to-end solutions for new and existing projects (blueprints, gap analysis, functional specifications, build and test management)
  • Drive adoption and understanding of changes to ensure successful implementation
  • Provide excellent responsiveness to level 2 and 3 incident resolution (containment, root-cause analysis, problem statements) whilst maintaining timely communication to all affected parties
  • Provide high-quality mentoring, knowledge transfer and training to business key users and CoE peers
  • Deliver changes, projects, solutions, documents, processes or advice which bring the greatest benefit to the end customer
  • Occasional on-call / out-of-hours responsibilities, particularly during month-end and year-end activities.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Preferred candidates will have had at least 3 full project life cycles, and the following:

  • Solid understanding of the business and the SAP product set to effectively analyse the current state and how changes may need to be made to successfully implement a SAP solution
  • Demonstrable understanding of financial business processes
  • Proven high levels of proficiency in the design, configuration and testing of:
  • Core FI/CO modules (GL, AP, AR) 
  •  Asset Accounting
  • CO-PA
  • Project Systems
  • Experience with report writer and report painter
  • Experience and knowledge of key integration points with other SAP modules (Sales & Distribution, Production, Inventory Management, Procurement)
  • Highly developed client management skills
  • Strong analytical skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to write at a publication quality level to communicate findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Business process analysis and redesign experience: strong business analysis skills; process mapping; business process redesign and implementation
  • Systems implementation skills: requirements/process analysis, conceptual and detailed design, configuration, testing, training, change management, support
  • Knowledge of SAP’s ERP6 platform
  • Understanding of SAP security (Roles and Authorisations)
  • Ability to develop functional specifications for business reports
  • Reading and debug knowledge of ABAP is advantageous.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of newer platform technologies such as S/4 Hana and S/4 Hana Cloud would be advantageous
  • Experience with product costing and material ledger is advantageous

The Work Environment:
You will be based at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre with flexibility for remote working in line with role requirements. Our campus includes a subsidised restaurant, a café, a gym with a pool, break-out spaces, bicycle storage facilities and more. Our environment is designed to encourage collaborative working across all teams. You will be within one hundred metres of a specialist within their field, whether it’s in design, modelling and simulation, software development, data analytics, electronics hardware, finance and marketing.

The Recruitment process:

  • If our recruiter believes you’re suitable for the role, you will then be invited for a short Video Q+A.
  • The final stage will be an onsite face to face interview at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey where you will have the opportunity to meet the Hiring Manager and wider team.
